Donald Trump says Justice Antonin Scalia's comments about black students performing better in "slower-track" universities are "very tough" to African-Americans.
"I thought it was very tough to the African-American community, actually," Trump told CNN's Jake Tapper in an interview that aired Sunday on "State of the Union."
"I don't like what he said," Trump added. "No, I don't like what he said. I heard him, I was like, 'Let me read it again' because I actually saw it in print, and I'm going -- I read a lot of stuff -- and I'm going, 'Whoa!' "

Ruh-roh! Is Scalia still holding a gavel? If so, the honorable justice is very important to freedom such as gun rights, property rights, and the federal balance of power.
I would guess the context was regarding ‘affirmative action’, but Trump might have the power to destroy Scalia over some silly misunderstanding.
Like, whoa !
Trump, if you start pandering, you lose the one thing which makes you different from the rest (other than Cruz). Scalia didn’t say anything offensive or untruthful.
Ohhh. I wish Trump would show some in-depth understanding of things every once in a while. Scalia was using devils-advocacy and referring to well-researched phenomenon.
This is where we see he isn’t conservative.

What I read above could be enough to have Scalia impeached if Obama spins this effectively. I know that would be outrageous if it happened, but could you imagine congress not impeaching/removing someone who is quoted [most likely out of context I assume] this same way and tag-teamed by Trump, Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, and Zero?
Scalia was essentially paraphrasing Thomas Sowell’s well-researched and apt argument.
I hope Trump misinterpreted what Scalia was trying to say.
The research has been done by Dr. Thomas Sowell, among others. Black students are consistently placed in academic programs above their level of preparation, with the result that their graduation rate is far lower than that of students admitted to the same programs without race preference.
The real-world experiment has also been done. When California’s state universities eliminated racial preference, the graduation rate of blacks and Hispanics increased throughout the system, because they were admitted to campuses for which they were academically prepared. (I believe their overall percentage in the state university system also increased, but wouldn’t swear to it.)

That is heartening. But if Trump digs in his heels against Scalia, we have a serious problem on our hands.
And, if Cruz can defend Scalia in a timely manner, a HUGE feather in his cap.
This doesn't mean no blacks can qualify and thrive at top rate institutions, it simply means that you are doing them no favors by admitting them only because they are black knowing that they will wash out. Where if they had gone to a more appropriate institution they could have done well.
Another unforced error from the Donald....these may start catching up to him.
Somebody is playing the fool in this dust up, and it ain’t Scalia.
Trump does not come out against Scalia in what is stated above.
Trump just says that it is tough on black people.
The truth is often tough.
Something has to be done about affirmative action.
5x as many people want to get into these prestigious colleges and there are class openings. I think it should be colorblind and based on SAT, transcripts, and community service.
If your grade suck they are not doing you a favor letting you sink to the bottom of your class.
I like Trump, but his experience is that he is smart got good grades and was top of his class. Besides he was in business with Fred Trump as a teen and learned a lot from his Dad and when he got to Wharton he already had a head start on business knowledge.
Better to go to a school that is just a bit harder than your level and reach up to that level as your goal. Going to a school that is too fast paced and way out of your league IMHO is not wise.
Also, keeping your betters from getting into an Ivy League school Forster a life long hatred for those who were denied their chance at getting in only because of quotas and affirmative action. I know some friends who had the grades and had to go for years to night schools, and some did graduate eventually and some were not able to keep going and hold a job. Both types of people to this day are bitter about it. Not to even mention those who had to go to second rate schools got all A’s but knew they got screwed when they had the grades to got to an Ivy League school but inferior students were given admittance and they were past over.
I think repeatedly saying “I don’t like what he said” is coming out against Scalia.
Trump ain’t perfect, but I hope in this case his imperfection was in seeing what Scalia was getting at and not defending indefensible affirmative action policies that actually hurt black students.

Trump is courting the “black vote”. Scalia knows this is politics. Scalia is a bigger man than that.
Well at his rally yesterday Trump said Thomas was his favorite justice and he said the Scalia was good too.
What does community service have to do with a student's ability to succeed in a challenging academic program?
