MACON, Mo. (KFVS/AP) - A north-central Missouri sheriff's office says prepaid, disposable cell phones that were purchased in bulk aren't thought to be connected to "violent criminal activity."
Large quantities of cell phones were recently sold at Walmart stores in Jackson, Cape Girardeau, Columbia, Macon, Jefferson City, and Lebanon.
Those purchases set off some alarms because investigators say they are potential tools in the hands of terrorists. The devices can be used to communicate and they are difficult to trace if they are prepaid phones. They can also be used as detonators for bombs.

Several years ago, muzzies were buying TracPhons by the hundreds and sending them to Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iraq to be used as detonators for IEDs.
One group of muzzies were busted in OH with hundreds of phones in their van. Some were to be sent overseas, IIRC, and they said they had plans to use some of them to blow up a bridge somewhere along the US/Canadian border.
Once it was discovered these purchases were being made across the country, a limit was put on the number of phones a person could buy. It sounds like that’s been relaxed. These phones are probably being sent to ISIS nowadays.
