In many respects, the Democratic Leadership Council he headed tried to take the Democrats back to the center.

It was instrumental in his 1992 victory.

Such a moderating force no longer exists in the Democratic Party today.

Its a competition between those who can most appeal to the fringe.

Which is profoundly unsettling.
