If Trump had not been in this race, Cruz would have been insignificant by now. He didn't have the firepower to withstand the establishment onslaughts and the media onslaughts that would have come his way. Cruz remains relevant in this race purely because Trump has paved the way for him. That does not detract from his intelligence, policies, etc. In one sense, it means he read the terrain correctly and responded accordingly. You are presenting facts not in evidence....just a theory....that can be picked apart, even as it has a smidgeon of validity to it.

I think his thinking is quite rational. Cruz campaign is like the draft space behind a trump 18 wheeler that just sucks him along.
Cruz was widely disliked and disparaged almost daily before the campaign began. that disparagement stain of too right wing has not worn off. That view was held by many conservatives unwilling to place a bet on the extreme.
