Im a trucker. Driving team can be really tough but the money is good. I prefer solo. Being female I prefer at least a little privacy.
One thing I’m seeing more and more is straight trucks with sleeper cabs. Fed Ex has a whole fleet. Long haul trucking with small loads that have to be somewhere fast. I assume they’re team but if not I may look into it.
My Thanks go to the truckers of American Highways. Merry Christmas to all of you.
I worked for a company in Oregon in the ‘70’s that hauled wood products South into California, and produce, such as watermelons, back north into Oregon and Washington.
The developed a method of deadheading trucks back north cheaply. They would travel in a convoy of one 18-wheeler with a bunk-bed sleeper and two cab-over truck-and-2 short-trailer without.
After the loads were dropped off in Cali, the 2nd trailer was loaded on the first, and the two trailer combo plus the tractor were loaded on the semi-trailer. This was done for both of the truck-trailer combo’s. The whole affair was chained down, and they headed back north. The round trip could be accomplished in 36 hours.
