Police sergeant suggests New Mexico governor was 'inebriated' at holiday party (Republican)

Washington (CNN)A police recording made public this week reveals a police sergeant and a hotel security guard discussing whether New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez was "inebriated" at a holiday party earlier this month.

The recording, obtained by CNN affiliate KOAT and other outlets, raises questions about what happened at a raucous holiday party in Santa Fe and how Martinez, once a rising GOP star, handled a police inquiry into a noise complaint at the hotel.

Police arrived at the El Dorado hotel late on December 12 after it was claimed that bottles were being thrown from a fourth-floor balcony, KOAT reported. Martinez herself is captured on Santa Fe Police Sgt. Anthony Tapia's body recorder, telling the officer about the bottles.

"Five hours ago, there was somebody that we said, 'Get out of the room. Do not be doing what you're doing.' There were bottles being thrown over. We said, 'Get the hell out and stop,'" Martinez tells Tapia.

That contradicts a statement the governor's office put out last week about the incident, in which her office said snowballs, not bottles, had been thrown over.

In response to a neighbor's noise complaint, Martinez, who can be heard carefully enunciating her words in the recording, then testily apologies for talking too loudly in her hotel room.

We’re the Republican Party, not the Temperance Party. If there was a law against adults’ getting drunk at party, the jails would be full of fun people.

Hmmmm. Let’s see. The lyin’ king admits to being a pot smoker and while in college(?) doing cocaine when they could get it. Meh. The less than honorable teddy kennedy gets drunk and drives a borrowed Oldsmobile off a bridge resulting in the death of a young intern. OMG! Poor teddy. WTH? Gov has a few drinks and.............watch out NM.

Merry Christmas

Might be a political hit job.

But whatever the case, I have little use for Martinez. She stood idly by when the homo-fascists went after a wedding photographer in her state. So to hell with her. The media jackels can boil her in oil for all I care.

I disagree. It's long past time that Republican office holders realized that they're held to a higher standard. The dems will exploit bad behavior by them, and we should be fed up because they got office campaigning as conservatives, both for government issues and family values.

I despise hypocrisy. It leads directly to back-stabbers betraying us. If they'll lie about their social conservative, how can we assume they aren't lying about everything else?

I agree.

I have no use for a politician who does not stand up for what is right and moral.

PS - Ms. Martinez, please update your resume.

If there are issues with her actions as governor vs. her campaign rhetoric, then voters certainly need to take that into account. However, unless Gov. Martinez campaigned as a teetotaler, where’s the “hypocrisy” in her being intoxicated?

Everyone elected as Republican by now knows that they're held to a higher standard. They know that Republicans stand for conservative social and family values. Did she campaign as a Republican?

Besides that, she isn't outspoken about stopping the invasion of the US and didn't stand against the invaders who poured into her state. We're better off without those who won't passionately fight to end the invasion of the US.

With power comes responsibility. The job is 24/7/365, and the world doesn’t stop spinning because she wants to get smashed.

Don’t like it? Quit and let an adult do the job.

Being drunk at a party is one thing, abusing her power as governor is another. She’s a real loser anyway but I suspect this scratches her from anyone’s VP list if she was to ever be on one. Good riddance.

“Suggests”? Only the fact that she has an R after her name makes this headline material.

Two gossiping people in one of the most liberal towns in the country - one more than likely a union member - is now as good as a felony indictment.

Marco Rubio mentioned her as a possible vice-presidential candidate just one month ago.
