Elizabeth Laird The Hug Lady Passes Away (Ft Hood, Texas)

COPPERAS COVE – Elizabeth Laird ‘The Hug Lady’ passed away Thursday at Metroplex Hospital.

Laird made it her mission to hug every single soldier as they boarded planes to deploy and waited with a hug when they returned to welcome them home.

She was 83 years-old.

Services are pending with Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home of Copperas Cove.

Mrs. Laird was best known as the Hug Lady, of course, but she and her late husband, Ray, were also very active with the Salvation Army, locally. That’s how I met her...the Kettle Campaign a bunch of Christmases ago. They were just really neat people.

My nephew deployed from Ft. Hood twice...once to Iraq, and once to Afghanistan. He came back both times and probably got hugged by this wonderful lady coming and going.

Rest In Peace, and my our Lord Jesus give YOU a hug when you see Him.
