If there is a legal allowance for something called a “special government employee” then I don’t have a problem with it. What were the “dollar-a-year men” who worked for Roosevelt during WWII?
There’s all kinds of nook and crannies in the Federal Service for contractors, recalls, retirees, etc. I wouldn’t be surprised if Cabinet Officials and heads of departments have a lot of leeway in hiring people they want and like.
We need to find out if Huma was violating any laws or codes-of-conduct before we waste energy getting all worked up over it.
