The advantage of being a celebrity scientist is that you don’t actually have to do any science. You’re exempted from the usual “publish or perish” rules

because its not "publish or perish" in science, and academia anymore...

its really "publicity or perish"...

you don't have to be on note by contributing something original of substance ....

You just have to be of note for something, anything... ...

these days it's usually being note for nothing of any real substance... you don't need talent.... you just need to be a celebrity.. be a member of the noisy PC squeaky wheel class

It sad what the word “science” has become... science is a methodology for understanding, of discovering truth ...as the objection was finding “truth”....

now science it not the methodology, or seeking the truth, with a method of discovers........it regurgitation of things that you were told without understanding

science is method of discovering data, connecting the dots or point of data of with reason and rational understanding... all in the goal of seeking what was reality and true....

now “science” is it regurgitating a “line” in public without any necessary understanding... unthinking, unquestioning...

what science tells you used to open minds to greater thoughts and questions... and now is used to close down independent thought and questions

you no longer ask questions,.you stop thinking, when you think you know all the answers....

true wisdom is knowing you know nothing (at least in the overall scheme of things)

At my school, if you passed the PhD qualifer exam, you also got the masters and continued on. If you failed it, as long as your classes were good enough you got the masters and left in short order.

Penny: So that means you’re a doctor, you’re a doctor, you’re a doctor, you’re a doctor and, drbuzzard, you know a lot of doctors.

I skipped the qual exams and went straight for the PhD.
