H-E-B grocers in Texas have put signage on their doors barring openly carried handguns, while Kroger says they will simply abide by the new law which will allow openly carried handguns, beginning January 1.

Well, yeah, if a business so chooses to deny open carry, it's their business. Per the TX law, I guess they are fine to do that. They still recognize CCW rights though. I know the Smith's(Kroger) here in Reno have no issue with open carry that I've seen. Possibly some visitors from just to the west of us get a little spooked.

Sounds like Kroger just developed a market niche, at least with this Texan who does not carry, but will switch from HEB to Kroger anyway.

I prefer to carry concealed as it keeps the bad guys guessing.

That’s me, though.

Nevada used to sell handguns openly in drug stores, right next to the liquor section and across from the slot machines that used to be a fixture in every retail outlet in the state. So open carry was no biggie in Nevada long ago.

Guess what?

I and my family are never going into an HEB ever again.

I just don’t feel safe there.

HEB seems about as wimpy as JEB

I shop almost exclusively at Krogers.

Partly because they took a sensible decision.

I agree with that. And I don’t do bumper stickers for the same reason.

LOL! Weird that following local laws, rules and regulations is the sensible approach. Guess Kroger doesn’t care if somebody’s “feelings” get hurt. We do Smith’s where we are. Plus we get gasoline points too.

Not seeing a major problem here.

They are complying with the law concerning open carry and posting the appropriate signage. This is their right as property owners.. Concealed carry is not prohibited.

I see a whole crapload of Gibber Jabber on this forum about individual property rights, but when a property owner exercise their rights concerning open carry, those same people go bat$h!t.

I understand why they did this-it is not their fight to “educate” the idiots out there concerning the 2nd Amendment by going through the BS the liberals are going to cause with false reports if they allow open carry. They have decided to be discreet.

The education part is left to the proponents.

They always have the option of changing when the population becomes educated.

The real solution is to make those signs meaningless by removing ANY penalties and prohibiting any trespass violations.

If a business like a market is open to the public then, as a matter of law, the sign should be made meaningless.

I’m considering a piece of narrow blue tape as a bumper/rear window sticker. Possibly reflective?

So if an impecunious homeboy determines to rob a grocery store, to which one will he go?

LOL! Like I said, their property, they can make the rules for said property. Kind of like restaurants and bars being able to make their own descisions about smoking in their estab.............. Oh, guess not in that case. Weird how that works. Yeah, it is bizarro world.

Possibly some visitors from just to the west of us get a little spooked.

About a month after I moved here from someplace just west of here I was headed home from work and noted the guy commuting home on the motorcycle next to me had a 1911 on his hip.

I thought 'KEWL!', and noted that no pantie wetter had called it in, and marveled at the lack of SWAT teams and helicopter gunships overhead.

Probably neither since there's just as good a chance that there will be CCWs at both.

We have one grocery store here and it’s HEButt (yes, real name). Worse store ever. Can’t stand it.

Garbage “fresh” produce and very limited inventory. They haven’t sold pork ‘n beans for years. You want something more than black or green canned olives? Forget it. You want more than cheddar, mozz or the rarely ordered swiss (only Kraft slices)? Forget it. How about Karo syrup and marshmallow fluff for your holiday treats? Nope, they never have it. Want more variety than half a dozen cuts of beef or pork? Hahahahaha! Want to cook for the family reunion? Then you should have started buying up meat a week or two in advance because they only put out a max of 4 packages per cut in the meat bin. Want to pick up something in the weekly sales circular? Count on it never being ordered or “it wasn’t on the truck” excuse or you have to annoy the meat man enough and do what amounts to a meat “drug” deal with him on the sly. Have a coupon? Don’t bother because they pull national coupon items off the shelves or claim the coupon won’t register. Want bread or milk? Sorry, the shelves are empty or you put the last two cartons of milk into your cart and three people beg to take one off your hands.

It’s a royal pain in the BUTT! Hope that those towns that have other stores put HEButt out of business by summer.
