NEW YORK - Whole Foods has agreed to pay $500,000 to resolve an investigation into whether the supermarket chain charged too much for some prepackaged foods at its New York City stores, a city agency announced on Monday.

The Department of Consumer Affairs announced an investigation of Whole Foods in June after finding its New York City stores routinely overstated the weight of prepackaged meat, dairy and other goods.

The overcharges ranged from 80 cents for a package of pecan panko to $14.84 for a package of coconut shrimp, according to the agency, which tested 80 types of food and found that all of them had mislabeled weight.

All 80 had mistaken weights?

That is not by coincidence.

Whole Foods caters to the more affluent liberals. They can afford to get charged more for the same thing!

That line of reasoning sound familiar?

This is typical NYC. Everything is micromanaged by worthless bureaucrats who never so much as pushed a broom in their pathetic lives. I don’t know how businesses can survive.

Isn’t the whole purpose of Whole Foods to overcharge rich Libs for normal food?

Consumers won’t see a penny of that, of course. The Democrat Party will see more than consumers will.

Sorry, if you print ‘8 ounces’ on the package’, and it’s really 7 ounces, you deserve to get busted.

Over charged?, how would you ever know at Whole Foods. Seems the Sheeple are plenty proud to over pay for their food for the purpose of bragging to their friends that they over pay for their food.

That gets me, too. Government sues every business in sight for billions and distributes none of the money to the customers who got screwed in the first place.

I wonder if it ever happens that they print 8 oz. on the package and it is actually 9 oz.?

In the early 90s our local land line provider changed ownership and for 6 mo. we were over billed and had to be on the phone with them to get it straightened out. Never ever once were we under billed. That is when I tore out all the phone jacks and wiring and went wireless. Have never regretted it.

My guess is that they made a lot more than $500,000 profit on the underweights. Just a guess.

(If this involved a less PC chain, like, say WalMart, they would be hanged, drawn and quartered.)

They’re opening a Whole Paycheck in my town - the largest population of Hindu-American Indians in the USA, lol, who won’t pay a penny or lend extra for a candy bar, lol or a newspaper. Can’t wait to see what happens when this pans out.

I don’t think a Bureau of Weights and Measures is unique to New York, and I don’t think it’s an example of bureaucratic micromanagement. If a merchant says a package contains a pound of something, it had damn better contain a pound. Anything less is fraud.

I’ve never shopped there, but have heard they are very expensive. I’m on a really tight budget. How much are their ground beef, tomatoes and mozzarella per pound? I’m curious..
