Full Title: SAS to spearhead operation involving 1,000 British troops to wrest back control of a dozen oil fields from ISIS in Libya
British special forces to lead offensive by 6,000 U.S. and European soldiers
SAS will advise Libyan commanders on key tactics to control the battlefield
ISIS has seized several oil fields and is targeting biggest refinery in region
British special forces have been sent to Libya in a bid to halt the advance of the Islamic State, it has been reported.
SAS troops are understood to be preparing for an offensive involving 1,000 British soldiers to wrest back control of a dozen oil fields seized by the jihadists. ISIS has taken advantage of the lawlessness since the 2011 ouster of Colonel Gaddafi to make large gains along the coastline, setting up its power base in the former dictator's hometown of Sirte.
Mirroring its strategy in Iraq and Syria, the terror group has seized a number of revenue-boosting oil fields and are now targeting the Marsa al Brega refinery, the biggest in North Africa.
In an attempt to stop the advance, a major coalition offensive is planned within the next few weeks or months, it was reported by The Daily Mirror.
The operation will involve around 6,000 U.S. and European soldiers led by Italian forces, the SAS and military close observation experts from the Special Reconnaissance Regiment.
British experts will advise Libyan military commanders on so-called 'battle-space management' â tactics and skills needed to control the battlefield.

Islamic State Clash with Guards near Libya’s Es Sider Oil Port

Islamic State militants on Monday clashed with a force guarding Libya’s Es Sider oil port, and fighting continued near the major export terminal, witnesses and troops said.
No official was available to confirm the attack or details of how close the fighting was to the port. But Islamic State tried to attack Es Sider once before in October last year, setting of a car bomb and raiding a perimeter gate.
Es Sider and nearby Ras Lanuf oil ports have been closed for more than a year after fighting between rival factions for control of the country, where Islamic State has gained ground in the turmoil since the 2011 fall of Muammar Gaddafi.
I bet Red China would be happy to keep them “safe”.
Does Britain even have that many SAS troopers?
I guess bombing and regime change in Libya was a bad idea...
Don’t forget the Italians were involved too.
When do American leftists begin their anti-war protests?
There is no statute of limitations for murder, and what the Washington and Brussels elite did there was to facilitate murder. Just last summer they published a list of old Nazis that are still wanted.
No rest for the wicked. None.
“ISIS has seized several oil fields and is targeting biggest refinery in region “
Idiotic. Freakin idiotic. ISIS was put in power by us. NATO was flying close air support for them to overthrow Kaddafy. The esteemed Ambassador homo Stevens was supplying them with weapons.
A year and a wake up, and this national nightmare might be over.
That number will probably include 1PARA and the usual support echelon.
No, but the ones they do have are SASsy.
“6,000 U.S. and European soldiers led by Italian forces”
Americans under Italian leadership. No American should ever have to follow orders from a foreigner.
No blood for Oil. We have plenty of oil here in Texas.
I don't know if Obama resisted or if it was the US military or if Clinton dragged Obama reluctantly into joining the overthrow.
Clearly that idiot Clinton did not think Libya would devolve into jihadi terror camps - but Qaddafi warned that was exactlt who he was fighting. He was mostly right. Same situation in Syria - only there the Euros wanted the USA to strike because they lacked the capacity to do so so far from their operational bases in France and Italy.
