Prior to our intervention in Libya, pentagon reports stated that the vast majority of sectarian violence occurring in Iraq was the result of foreign fighters...many of which came from eastern Libya (Benghazi area).

Unless she is an idiot and disregards stuff that goes against her interests and world view. Clinton - or rather her husband’s people used jihadis before in Bosnia and Kosovo to get what they wanted and clearly she thought the same thing would happen in Libya. You always fight the last war and Clinton remembered jihadis fighting for her side to over throw an oppressive ex eastern block dictator.

Looks like the grandsons of the WW2 British Desert Rats have a 21st century mission in liberating Libya.
Liberating? At this point unless Libya has a massive Christian conversion the best they could probably hope for is the stability of a relatively benevolent dictator.

My thoughts exactly. Are we prepared to keep troops there guarding them on a long term basis? If not, are we prepared to finance troops who will guard them and not run away the next time ISIS shows up packed in Toyota pick-ups?

I bet the majority of these are US troops (because the rest of Europe doesn’t have much by way of military forces).
OTOH, Egypt sits on the border, and has plenty of troops, hundreds of F-16s, Abrams tanks, etc.
AND has a claim to eastern Libya (including Benghazi).
AND could put the oil to good domestic use.
(So why not use all that good US equipment and let Egypt re-define its border?)
