After many years of pondering the differences between the conservative and liberal ideas and methods, I was finally able to articulate what I consistently saw: Conservatives want to convince you of the correctness of their position. Liberals want to force you to submit to their position, whether or not it's correct. You just put the same idea more succinctly.

I appreciate the kind words but I didn’t arrive at that thought on my own. Several conservative columnists probably said it before me but the first person I heard phrase it in that way was Jonah Goldberg in his book “Liberal Fascism”.
