I think it was General Burnside who was the first president of the NRA and one of the Founders. Grant was the 8th NRA president I think.

I don’t think getting defensive weapons into the hands of black Americans was the reason the NRA was founded, although given the # of former Union generals or were involved in Reconstruction that headed the NRA, that probably did happen. The main reason I think was the general poor marksmanship of the Union soldiers.

I see...so those low restrictions on gun ownership only applies to blacks. Whites face different restrictions so they commit fewer gun crimes, right? Sorry, Bozo, the relationship you're arguing for is not linear. Blacks have an in-house problem that, to me, centers on the breakdown of the black family. In 1960, 20% of black children were born into a family with one parent, usually the mother. Today, it's 72%. Blacks need to fix this before they can start blaming everything on racism and gun laws. More guidance from a two-parent family sure wouldn't hurt anything. Black fathers need to accept the responsibility of being a father and help raising their children...to the benefit of all.
