But the absence of God would constitute eternal suffering with a burning desire to be in His presence.
Jesus definitely believed in hell.
I agree with everything you said except we are talking about spirit and not a body. The way a spirit experiences pain is likely different. In any event it was clear that Jesus was telling us that is was dreadful and it exists.
Meaning the fire is not put out til your gone. It does not mean there is a place that fire burns forever.
The day of judgement comes and those of us that believe rise to meet him in the air and the rest are burned up; permanently gone forever.
