Ronald Wilson Reagan was a Democrat before he was a Republican. I don’t think Mr Trump is a Socialist.
Maybe not now. Reagan’s transformation was gradual and clearly explained. Like Maobama’s “Christianity”, Trump’s conversion seems to have fallen from the sky.

Look at Reagan’s conversion to conservatism, starting with his rabid anti-communism stance in the late 1940’s, voting for and supporting Republican candidates and policies in the 1950’s to becoming the voice of conservatism in the 1960’s, becoming a conservative president in the 1980’s. There was quite a bit of conservative history with Reagan, spanning decades. Compare to Trump’s constant changing of party affiliation and positions on the issues in just the past decade. They are not comparable.
At least Trump has never been a socialist like Sanders supporting the nationalizing of healthcare or the banking system... oh, that’s right. He did. Does he still? He praised the single payer healthcare system THIS election cycle. The difference between Sanders and Trump is that one is a big government liberal while the other one is a big government liberal.
