The Air Force is indefinitely doing away with its plan to retire the A-10 jet, a move that seems both inevitable and shocking, given the aggressive steps leadership has taken to get rid of the aircraft and the fierce push back they received in response.
The remarkably high demand for A-10s from commanders is almost universally cited among critics of the A-10 decommissioning process. More details will be available when the Pentagonâs 2017 budget plan to keep the bird is sent over to Congress for consideration.

I did see something troubling in the article. Rep Martha McSally stated that the lyin’ king’s admin is coming to it’s senses and praised the “o” administration. Not sure how to take that.

Probably because some ground pounder Generals took them into a back room somewhere in the Pentagon and told them exactly what would happen to them, on a personal level, if they got rid of the A-10s. After three tours in AFG, I KNOW what the normal soldier and marine on the ground thinks of when they see or hear the Warthog.
To paraphrase: “I love the A-10 in the morning. It sounds like Victory”.

For one reason: it has a NASTY weapons carrying load still in high demand for close air support (CAS). Why do you think the old Douglas A-1 Skyraider was never really retired from CAS duties until after the Vietnam War?

I guess the Air Staff and its bureaucrats will never learn.
This marks the third, public, failure to get rid of the A-10. The first one occurred during DESERT SHIELD and cost the serving CoS, USAF, his job. The second occurred during the summer of 2001. And now this.
To “Muck” Brown, and others, “Otis says ‘Good On You Mates’”.
Makes me wonder when those same people will make another run at getting rid of Special Operations - they are 0 for 4 in that area.

I hope those Generals go on record with their views. President Trump/Cruz will fire them. Those that were willing to shoot Americans to get promoted should be jailed.

If they don’t want them, give them to the Marines.
We’ll know what to do with them.
