I agree with the suggestion that NBC requirement be struck, but only in favor of “citizen by birth”.

No naturalized citizens for the Presidency.

But we need to end the divisive and stupid arguments about the meaning of ‘natural born’. They cannot be resolved because the arguments are essentially dishonest at the core; and because there NEVER was any consensus on what the turn of phrase even meant to the Framers beyond ‘citizen by birth’. It was added to the Constitution as an afterthought and never debated or discussed. It is nothing but an obstacle to understanding and serves as a canard for people whose motivations are suspect.

Is an “anchor baby” a citizen by birth?

Even though many don't like this guy, I think it's applicable.

Their correspondence has been retained and it is very clear what they meant. They wanted to be sure that the future President would be the child of American citizens to guard against foreign allegiances. Just being born in America is not an equivalent protection and does not square with the intent of the Founder’s or the best interests of America.

You are dead wrong. The Framers knew EXACTLY what the term meant and it is exactly why they chose it. Deny all you wish, but before you do, dig a little deeper than disloyal people whose objective is to destroy the constitution as it was written.

So you have a Chinese and a North Korean who have a child on American soil and raise the child in their own cultures. he is an American Citizen by birth, but he does not have any assimilation or understanding of American Culture. Look what we have in the white house now.

..................................................
Divisive? Stupid? From the founding until 2008, the pople of the united States were protected from a foreign president by this “divisive and stupid” phrase, Natural born citizen. What has happened to our country since this foreigner has been president? Common sense would dictate the continuation of natural Born Citizen as the REQUIREMENT to be president.
The country has been divisive since its birth. Lets stay that way for another 200 years. To be otherwise is to be a slave.

HELL NO.

Govt can’t even read the WHOLE 14th Amendment (...and subject to...) and apply it so. There’s SOME hair to split in everything they do to make the English language NOT mean what it says.

Sh!t, they can’t even follow ‘shall NOT be infringed’ and ‘shall make NO Law’. Jeezus!
