I am on FR. I have some e-mails to answer (not work related). Go out with family later on to do some errands. Fun day and grateful for it.

Though I’m Catholic, I dedicate this day to Martin Luther. Bratwurst and Becks!

I will be starting a new tradition this year and it is really something I do every day. In honor of the day, I will completely be ignoring BLM and all it’s irrelevancy.

My employer made it a company holiday this year. In years past, we had a floating holiday instead, and most people were at work on MLK day. I kind of like having the fixed holiday instead, as it makes it less likely people will be scheduling meetngs and otherwise ruining my day off.
So I am at home, tinkering on a circuit design, Later, when my son is up, we’re going to set up this dry fire laser targetting software I got him for Christmas.

I’ll be watching “12 Years a Slave to the Democratic Party”

Iâll re-read some of his speeches then go to the range.
MLK is the most famous Republican gun owner I can think of.
Best response I’ve read. Better than the quipping, marginally racist pissy remarks many small minded have made here.
It is disappointing. Honor is not the same as worshiping someone; no one is asking people to worship MLK, and I dare say anyone in the US is worshiping him, even 0bama, who only worships himself. To those out there, all great men were flawed; God uses flawed, not those already nearly perfect. Heck, Martin Luther hated Jews, not many folks knew that. Look it up.

Same here, but since its a holiday I am getting something like double time. No big loss because every job I ever worked had never called it a holiday until this job. The Boss posted a holiday wish list and you had to choose two holidays to work. I picked this and Thanksgiving. Somehow managed to get all the summer holidays off. good trade.

Nothing good will come from this other than perhaps a ZOT!! Well said. MLK was a far from perfect person, but he was a force for good, and he did a lot to improve things in this country.
Does he deserve his own day? Probably not. But was he a great man who deserves respect for what he did? Absolutely! So maybe that's my answer to the original post. I'll spend a small slice of MLK day thinking about the peaceful efforts he made on behalf of my fellow citizens.

Ditto. Putting food on the table is more pressing than taking a day to dwell on racism. Let old wounds heal.

Of course in a perfect world it would be “Booker T. Washington” day.

In NH it is an optional Holiday, the day is recognized but it is up you to celebrate it or not. The schools are all open and from what I can see most people are working.
To: dfwgator
You got that right!! He’ll change our national anthem to the “internationale”.

With the removal of the Confederate flag here in South Carolina, any recognition of history, cultural heritage, or race issues have been effectively outlawed. Excuse me, while I go clean the litterboxes.
