The U.S. Coast Guard announced today that they will suspend the search for the 12 missing Marines off Haleiwa at sunset.
“The decision to suspend the search without finding survivors is particularly difficult,†said U.S. Coast Guard Capt. James Jenkins.
A search, led by the Marine Corps, will continue for debris and remains, but the focus of the search is changing to a recovery and salvage operation.

I am amazed, we have the greatest assets in techology, and you mean to tell me we cannot locate two rather large metal helocopters a few miles off shore - really thought I was done being surprised at my age.

They are now small pieces of metal spread over many miles by the explosion and ocean action. The biggest pieces are about the size of a VW, and they are on the bottom.
He commandeers their golf course for weeks , every Christmas. He uses their gym every day . He and his wife are always saying about how much they appreciate our Marines . But when twelve go down and are gone ….not a word . Not a damn word .
These gentlemen and ladies deserve a much better Commander and Chief .

The ocean is really large there. And can get deep quickly. Not too much further north from there it even gets deeper than 10,000 feet. I don’t think they were quite that far off, but it could easily be hundreds or several thousand feet deep.
A Japanese Pearl Harbor minisub was found a few years ago three miles off Oahu in 1200 feet of water. This will be a tough search.
He probably didn’t take a phone call. As everything else, he reads about it later in a newspaper.
Yes, the families of these fallen aviators really need a lot of support right now . It seems their bodies may not be recovered . I cannot imagine how rough that will be . A memorial service will be held at Marines Corps Base Hawaii this Friday . Maybe that will help a bit , but this is a grievous pain that will never go away . So sad , so very sad.
To top it all off , more gigantic surf on the way , making recovery ops all the more difficult .
