Cruz: Establishment Has Abandoned Rubio for Trump
National Review ^

Posted on 01/20/2016 4:19:24 PM PST by springwater13

Yes, you read that right. According to Ted Cruz, the so-called Republican establishment is abandoning Florida senator Marco Rubio and uniting behind real-estate mogul Donald Trump. Cruz has long said the Republican primary would come down to two candidates, one a conservative, the other an establishment moderate.

Now that Cruz and Trump are leading the polls, he's trying his hardest to paint Trump as the latter. "We're seeing something remarkable happening in this Republican primary," the Texas senator told reporters on Wednesday. "Right now, the Washington establishment is abandoning Marco Rubio, they’ve made the assessment that Marco can’t win this race, and the Washington establishment is rushing over to support Donald Trump. We're seeing that happen every day, and Mr. Trump is welcoming that support."

“Cruz: Establishment Has Abandoned Rubio for Trump”

Whatever mental illness that it is that Glenn Beck has, it looks like it’s virulently contagious because Cruz seems to have come down with a really bad case of it by hanging around Glenn too long.

>>It appears that the establishment of the party recognize the inevitable and are beginning to unite the party for the election<<

Or, put another way, you agree with Cruz when he says the GOP establishment prefers to deal with Trump rather than Cruz. I wonder why that would be?

We were told repeatedly before how Trump was better at removing the establishment. Now the argument is that Trump is better at working with the establishment and will get along well with them.

Obamacare has been a massive drag on the economy. Trump criticizes Obamacare, but not because it is an example of how big government fails. His criticism is that is is run by incompetent people and he would run it better. He actually wants to expand Obamacare into full socialized medicine. There's not much difference between Trump's health care approach and Bernie Sanders'.

Everybody and their Momma keeps screaming about how Trump has a liberal past, donated to Democrats, in pictures with the Clintons, etc. But everything he has said has been as a private citizen. His words then had as much of an impact as a statement from the Kardashians.

He was never in Congress, or in any public office, actively working with Democrats, not doing a damn thing about stopping Obama, or stopping the Bush spending spree, or stopping Clinton. He didn't lie to conservatives during the campaign only to flip them off when he was safely re-elected.

Ah, the same strategy used to put Souter, Kennedy and others on the Supreme Court. How did that work again?!

For that matter, as someone who walked the walk as the most anti-Branstad Republican in the state, how did you like having Terry all but endorse Trump yesterday.

The long game is consolidation of power.

The GOPe may disagree with some of Trump's ends, but the means will play right into their hand.

He intends to repeal Obamacare. he has been adamant about that. All congress has to do is hand him the bill. Once repealed, Congress can start over. I’ll take that deal. Obamacare is bankrupting the industry. It has to be repealed and replaced. there is no choice.

The problem is Trump has made himself a blank sheet of paper and has invited everyone to write in the kind of leader they think he is.

My opinion of trumpy would not be any different if cruz was not even running. His lies so far in the campaign would stretch across the Mississippi.

1. He will not deport illegals.
2. He will not build a wall.
3. Mexico will not pay for one.
4. He will not keep muzzies out of the country.
5. He cannot make Apple make their products here.
6. He will not put a 45% tariff on Chinese products.

Those are just six of the idiotic campaign promises he cannot or will never keep. You want anymore?

There are a lot of “extreme right wing individuals” on FreeRepublic. There are also liberals posing as conservatives on FreeRepublic.
