D.C. is Shutting Down because of Snow, But Look At The Tomb Of The Unknown Soldier…
Young Conservatives ^ | January 22, 2016 | John S. Roberts

Washington D.C. is currently being bombarded with snowfall, so most government employees thought it would be best to take the day off.

I mean, if it's dangerous, then sure - take the day. But it's pretty typical of the government to do nothing while others go about their business, isn't it?

Check out what's happening during the blizzard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington, VA...

I saw this on my local news. My first thought was “what dedication”. These are men that movies should be about, what America is about, what dignity and honor are about.

This is so much more moving and wonderful than all the immature Trump/Cruz posts. I’m so glad this was posted! God bless our soldiers!

WOW! Thank you for the link.

Tonight the guards stand there for two hours?!

God bless them and protect them.

"While Arlington National Cemetery is open, during the day in summer months from April 1 to September 30, the guard is changed every half hour.
During the winter months, from October 1 to March 31, the guard is changed every hour.
After the cemetery closes to the public (7 p.m. to 8 a.m. April through September, and 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. October through March), the guard is changed every 2 hours."

Can you imagine how hard that would be in that unit even if they had one? I’d be honored to pull a watch for them, but I think their standards and honor would nix that.

Well, functional or not, those pictures show them with fixed bayonets, unshielded. THAT is a mighty intimidating weapon in itself. I’ve also seen videos out on Youtube where the Guard has to “chastise” unruly, disrespectful tourists, and they do it loudly and with that fixed bayonet prominently featured. It’ll shut you up in a hurry. Also, and I’m not an expert here but I bet we have Freepers who are, there is a guard station nearby where I’m willing to bet they have at least some live ammo should things get really hairy, and at least one or two guys on duty to bring it if necessary. But that’s just a guess.

And elsewhere in D.C., the non essential people go home. God bless these boys.

God bless you too, for loving him so. There is an officer in the house! Heaven surely received him well.

Well, actually the guard only stands still for a short time. There is a routine where they march across the tomb, and then march back. If you read on it will give you the precise routine, which requires step counting and timing, as everything is done with significance.

It is drilled, drilled and drilled some more—and these young guards, by the time they are guarding the tomb. know the routine by heart.

I only saw it broken once. A crowd was not being quiet, and the guard stopped his march, faced the crowd, and said in a VERY loud voice “You WILL remain silent!”. He gave everyone in the crowd a stern look, and then resumed his paces.

I imagine they still have one. You always need that guy to pull unexpected relief. Probably not “drop of a hat” relief, but, “Oh, man, Johnson just puked. Send out the next guard and call in the supernumerary so we can work him into the rotation.”

America isn’t done—as long as such warriors march and guard. There is a love of the Nation in their snow covered hearts. God Bless America.
