Donald Trump’s official voting record has been released, showing that he was a registered Republican since at least 1980, throwing water on the theory that he was at one time a Democrat.
This is causing major panic in the Cruz campaign that insisted that Trump recently switched his affiliation.
Voting records for Trump’s adult sons, Donald Jr. and Eric, were not immediately available.
Trump is leading by wide margins in New Hampshire, South Carolina, Florida, and nearly every other state where pollsters take the Republican electorate’s temperature.
In Iowa, he is running neck-and-neck with Republican Sen. Ted Cruz in some polls, and leading him comfortably in others.
On Thursday in Las Vegas, Trump boasted of a new Emerson College poll that shows him leading Cruz there by 10 points.
‘Cruz is going down,’ he told a packed ballroom at the South Point casino. ‘He’s like a nervous wreck. He’s going down. He’s had his moment.’

No big deal, my wife and I both have switched from republican to independent, all thanks to the way the GOP has dropped the ball sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many times. At the present time we have NO representation in Washington, yes it’s by our own choosing.
THAT being said, i can never get that close to an abortion advocate, and i’m very close to my nephew who just came out of the closet as pro choice.

as crazy as it sounds, i worked in graphics with a lot of gay guys (boy do they have issues) and some of them were pro life. go figure

A couple of years later, we moved to Eastern NC which was so heavily Democrat at the time that my county did not even have a Republican primary because there were no local candidates to participate! Since I wanted to have a voice in local government, I registered as a Democrat. In the 1980s, Southern Democrats were much more conservative than the national party. In state and national elections, you can vote for anyone you choose, so I proudly voted for RWR in 1980 and 1984.
During the first Bush administration, I started listening to Rush and I knew without a doubt that I was conservative and had nothing in common with the Democrats which were in office at the time. Even so, I did not formally change my party affiliation until sometime during the administration of Bill Clinton because I no longer wanted to be associated with such a corrupt administration-even on paper!
I keep a low profile.
I enjoy debate with people who are open minded, not pedantic, not dullards, and who are reasonably close to "intellectually honest." I have a penchant for resort to primary authority such as constitutions, statutory language, rules of (court) procedure, and court cases. In debate with others, I have been known to get prickly.

To be expected. It is a statute, and how those operate is, believe it or not, somewhat of a mystery to the layman. Nothing wrong with that. I think whoever wrote the act realized, by 1795, that an Act of Congress could not be allowed to over-ride the constitution, so the Act was repealed and replaced. Congress can naturalize (turn a person born alien under the constitution into a citizen) any person it wants to.

Republicans are usually not seriously challenged in the primaries in heavily Democrat areas anyway...there hasn’t been a closely contested GOP primary in NYC in the past fifty years.
I also question the ability of a governmental entity being able to tabulate your voting record in the first place.
I am calling BS on this ....That is unless I am finding out that some state or local agency has the abilty to monitor your voting record. 1984ish , Big Brother here at work? I am not convinced.
All of them do. But show me one that specifies exactly the party you voted for. BTW, how 'bout those people who split their vote between parties.

Just to add a little more clarification to the document referred to (I hate that I have to qualify this, I don’t participate much in this forum, but having previously worked at the Board of Elections in the City of New York and being somewhat of an expert, and also having taken the time to go to the public AVID terminals and actually look up the records here are the FACTS):
1. The Enrollment Part is the Current Party Enrollment
2. As previous posters noted the Voter Type indicates whether the voter was an R (Registered), F (FEDERAL, i.e. persons living overseas who are only eligible to vote in Federal Elections, not local municipal elections), M (Military, self-explanatory), P for Permanent (Disabled, persons in nursing homes, or disabled at home).
3. Also as previously noted, Ballot Type indicates whether the person voted at the Poll Site (R for Regular) or A for Absentee (in fact as you can see from the document, DJT voted on 11/2/2004 as an A for Absentee which means he probably was out of town and requested a ballot and voted by paper before election day.
4. Having looked at DJT’s voting history on the AVID System it actually does indicate in which registered party he voted for each election. In New York (perhaps elsewhere) we have voter registration books that are either Pink (Rep), Green (Dem) and other colors for other parties. you go to the table sign the book and take card. This was done to confirm the correct number of people voted on the machine as had signed the book.

(GE = General Election). In his defense DJT voted in pretty much all eligible primaries. He has a good solid voting record since 1989, but he did vote as a Dem from 2005 (Mayoral elections in New York are every 4 years in the ODD/OFF years, so 2005, 2009, 2013 and next year) to 2008.
Yes, Congress can naturalize anyone it wants. The constitution grants the power to make rule of naturalization, to Congress. It does not limit or cabin that power in any way. What limits Congress in this regard is the political process, not the constitution.

You might have fun perusing my posting history. No need for debate, and whether you agree with my point of view or not, I've laid out how I get to my point of view, in a way that I hope is accessible to average people with no exposure to legalese.
The voting books are not meant to tabulate what party you voted for, merely what party you are registered in. It is meant to keep a record of turnout by party and also to make certain only eligible people vote in the party primaries.
The ballot is secret. Once you went into the Schoop or walked up to the DS-200 Scanner no on would know how you voted.

And again, the Title of the article is misleading. Big difference in voting record and registration, which I have seen scanned documents proving he was a democrat . Again, Trump fans trying to distance him from his democratic liberal past.
