I remember some 18 years ago a Swiss lady telling me she was afraid in her own country, that for the first time ever they were dealing with street crime and muggers.

I remember passing through the tiny Germany town of Rimbach, population about 1,900. Near the entrance to the cemetery there was a memorial to the Kriegsgefallene, from two wars, about 100 names from that tiny hamlet. I’ve said before that there is no Germany in the post-unification (19th century) sense. This is the artificial post-WW2 ethnic German state of a defeated people with no proud history to grow from, some with no historical ties to where they live because a great deal of them are descended from Germans driven from their historical homelands after the war to where they are now.

So in short, these people have nothing to fight for, and will fall in the face of anything. Because they aren’t sure who they even are enough to rally to save what’s left.

Ten years ago I spoke at a technical conference in Frankfurt. The attendees were almost all men.

I observed that German men tended to be anal retentive, had no sense of humor, and could best be described as girlie-men.

Now, it could be that a technical conference attracts those types.
