6 Reasons I Tell My Kids Not to Talk to Police(Uh, WHAT?)

Let me say up front that I know this will be unpopular. But I can't help the uneasiness that I feel toward law enforcement lately...and I have some good reasons. Gone are the days of Officer Friendly, the neighborhood cop who knows everyone and is looking out for the community's best interest. It seems that lately, police officers end up terrorizing those they are supposed to be serving and protecting. Clearly, not all police are acting this way, but it sure seems the police state is ramping up. I have a high respect for police officers who respect the law. The rest of them, though...they scare me. Here are some reasons I don't want my kids talking to the police:

Calling the cops these days results in a felony arrest or someone getting shot. Not every time, but this is the result far more than it should be.

My Daughter was stopped last January and charged with "Felony Fleeing" or failure to stop. No underlying charge. She was on a stretch of feeder road under construction with exits barricaded that was down to one lane when the HPD cruiser turned on the lights. She continued until she could pull over at a spot wide enough to stop without blocking the busy traffic. The two male cops proceeded to pull firearms and do a full felony stop, including handcuffs and frisk.

I would not have believed her story except when we hired an attorney and he was able to get the dash cam video it happened exactly as described. Cost was one night in jail; $550. to a bondsman for a $5,000.bond; $400. car impound; $5,000. Lawyer fee (friend of mine)and 5 trips to court, parking, loss of work etc. End result was she had all charges dropped. This is the system we call justice.

2 years ago My house was broken into in the daytime while I was at work. When I returned home I called the police. They sent an officer within 20 minutes who I met in the front driveway and showed both DL and CHL to identify myself as the homeowner. He immediately ask to disarm me. I refused but told him if he cleared the house I would then place the weapon in a drawer in the living room as a courtesy. He told me I could pick up a report at the station in 10 days.

I ask him if he would like for me to contact neighbors or canvas pawn shops in the area. He let me know in clear language that they were the police and I should not get involved in the investigation.

I have not been good at being intimidated so I ask neighbors who had cameras and we quickly identified a car and lic. plates. Police would not accept the evidence and again warned me from getting involved.

The lesson I took away was if you need a document for insurance call the cops otherwise they are a waste of time.

“I suspect that this has less to do with the police than adults, like school administrators and teachers, who instead of disciplining children want them arrested and charged with crimes.”

Teachers are no longer allowed to touch children, let alone discipline them. The children get physical and need to be dealt with so the school admins have no choice but to call the police who *are* authorized to lay their hands on the little dindus.

If readers were to glance at the headline, and then decide to even spend time reading the article itself, yes they are idiots.

BTW, it is legally very wrong in places.

I don’t blame cops. I blame the lawyers. But cops have to always recognize that there is a higher law that supercedes department regulations. You can’t authorize anyone to commit a crime.

Instead of patrolling and being confronted by bad guys. Lucky none of the kids was injured or the cop shop might have been sued for some reason.

You object to reading the article before making a comment? That seems... odd.

"BTW, it is legally very wrong in places."

Care to show where the article is legally very wrong? BTW, it would strengthen your argument if you read it first.

That is truly a bizarre piece of advice.

If someone is breaking into Megan Fox’s home, she should call her mother and complain... I’m sure that will work out well for her.

As an individual, if you are under investigation or a suspect, of couse it’s a necessity to say as little as possible. You’re certainly under no obligation to incrinimate yourself.
The police are there to enforce the law. The way they enforce the law is regulated by the department policy and procedure which is influenced by court decisions as well as local, state and federal policies and initiatives.
Unfortunately, as with many institutions today, the police are persuaded and pressured to act in ways that usurp individual rights. Many state government and local munipalities have an overall pernicious influence on law enforcement and this is manifested in bad policing. Most certainly, the Federal government universally has an insidious influence on local police departments when they provide the means by indoctrinating, training and equipping police departments to act and function as an occupying military force.
The idea of the totalitarians is to create a conflict between the police and the public which will require a Federal government or global government solution.
The police and the public MUST realize that they are not mutual enemies. Instead, we all need to stand up to the Feds and those supporting globalist and totalitarian aims and solutions.

As but one example, point #6 completely fails to acknowledge the complete legality of some warrentless searches.

Here’s where I could learn something. Please explain the complete legality of some warrantless searches. When could a cop search my person, my car, my home or my kid’s backpack or cell phone or iPad, without a warrant?

For starters, not all are applicable in every case, but some examples,

Search pursuant to a lawful arrest
Search for a fleeing felon
Search pursuant to a request to a assistance from some person within the house
Search for illegal immigrants in the presence of some reliable indicator
Search for concealed weapon
In many states, search for illegally taken game animals
Search pursuant to the observation of contraband as seen from a readily accessible public viewing place
Search pursuant to the observation of a crime in progress as seen from a readily accessible public viewing place
Search in response to a hit/indication from a trained drug
dog
Search for a bail evader
Search as permitted as a condition of parole or pardon
Search after the declaration of Martial Law
Search after an indication of certain radiological emissions

This varies tremendously between states, and is based on bad parents looking for an excuse to sue. While this nonsense would normally be limited to the blue states, it has spread to many of the red states that have protections already in place for school districts.

So, again in red states, they have a lot of catching up to do in disciplinary problems, from irrational “zero tolerance”, to corporal punishment. Optimally, there will be a two pronged approach, of teachers keeping order, and administrators administering corporal punishment as needed. This creates a Chinese wall to protect children from abusive teachers.
