Franklin Graham: "Islam and Christianity Clearly Do Not Worship the Same God" [2 John 1]
Breitbart ^ | 1/24/2016 | Thomas D. Williams, Ph.D

Posted on 01/24/2016 1:06:10 PM PST by Jan_Sobieski

Muslims and Christians do not worship the same God, celebrated evangelist Franklin Graham said in response to the controversial claim by a faculty member at Wheaton College in Illinois. In a series of tweets late Saturday night, Graham, the son of evangelist Billy Graham, laid out his opposition to the recommendation of the college’s faculty council that the school drop its plans to terminate a professor who published her belief that Islam and Christianity worship the same God, which Graham said was "no minor issue." In December 2015, Larycia Hawkins, who teaches political science at Wheaton College, was put on administrative leave after wearing a hijab to school in solidarity with Muslims. Wheaton is a private evangelical Christian college, which has sometimes been called the "evangelical Harvard" because of its reputation for academic rigor.

Hawkins announced that she would wear the hijab to demonstrate support for Muslims in the aftermath of the shootings in Paris and San Bernardino, California. She also used the gesture as a platform to express her belief that Christians and Muslims worship the same God. In a separate Facebook post, Graham said both his father and mother attended Wheaton College, where they met for the first time. "I'm surprised and disappointed that the faculty council there is now recommending the college drop their plans to terminate a professor who published that she believed Islam and Christianity worship the same God in December. This is no minor issue that should be debated," Graham wrote...

The Bible and the quran are fundamentally different types of works, which can be seen right from each’s beginnings.

They are totally incompatible.

Actually, if you read the entire Koran there are several verses which bear some similarity to the Golden Rule.
However, they ‘don’t count much”... because... they are in earlier parts of the Koran (earlier in time, don’t go by chapter numbers or order because the Koran chapters or “suras” are NOT in chronological order).

Sura 9 contains the very last words of Mohammed (in verses 1 thru 29, and the rest of Sura 9 is also quite late albeit not his very last words).

A key Islamic rule is that verses from later in Mo’s life take precedence over verses attributed to his earlier years. In case of contradiction, the later-in=Mo’s-life verses rule.

Here are some Mo’s last verses from Sura 9, attributed to him on his deathbed:

9:1 A declaration of immunity from God and His apostle to the idolaters with whom you have made agreements:

9:2 For four months you shall go unmolested in the land. But know that you shall not escape God’s judgement, and that God will humble the unbelievers.

9:3 A proclamation to the people from God and His apostle on the day of the greater pilgrimage:

God and His apostle are under no obligation to the idolaters. If you repent, it shall be well with you; but if you give no heed, know that you shall not be immune from God’s judgement.

Proclaim a woeful punishment to the unbelievers,

9:4 except to those idolaters who have honoured their treaties with you in every detail and aided none against you. With these keep faith, until their treaties have run their term. God loves the righteous.

9:5 When the sacred months are over slay the idolaters wherever you find them. Arrest them, besiege them, and lie in ambush everywhere for them. If they repent and take to prayer and render the alms levy, allow them to go their way. God is forgiving and merciful.

9:6 If an idolater seeks asylum with you, give him protection so that he may hear the Word of God, and then convey him to safety. For the idolaters are ignorant men.

9:7 God and His apostle repose no trust in idolaters, save those with whom you have made treaties at the Sacred Mosque. So long as they keep faith with you, keep faith with them. God loves the righteous.

9:8 How can you trust them? If they prevail against you they will respect neither agreements nor ties of kindred. They flatter you with their tongues, but their hearts reject you. Most of them are evil doers.”

and so it goes.

PS;
“idolaters” in Koran include especially Christians (!) (Islam teaches that the Christian divine status of Jesus is idolatry, and Christianity was the principal form of
idolatry known to Mohammed)

and
“non-believers” generally or often are understood by Muslims to include everybody outside Islam (Christians, Jews, Hindus, whatever)

so while there are some ‘nice nice’ verses in the Koran, and these are frequently quoted to us by Muslim=apologists, the point is that those verses date back to Mohammed’s nicer, earlier years..... and most Islamics do not follow them ...because Mohammed’s later teachings in the Koran were the violent and hate=filled contrary verses as above

here are key verses

>>Whether some scholars wish to admit it or not, almost all modern law codes in Western countries that claim a Christian heritage are based on these concepts.<<

The SCOTUS has chiseled on the front of the building above the doors...Moses, sitting with two tablets, one in each hand.

I have been saying the same thing for years. Islam is a “spirit” of anti-Christ...and its demonic in its nature and the way it lives out it’s faith in its believers.
In Christianity God died for you. In Islam you kill for Allah.

Brought about by the likes of Rick Warren, Joel Osteen, and the Word of Faith movement.

Most Pastors won’t even acknowledge John 14:6 anymore for fear of offending 95% of their attendees. Can’t have those coffers start to go dry can we?

Franklin speaks the truth. Others are in denial. This is an evil cult. Egypt called for a reform of Islam. The rest of the Muslim countries need to do the same.

I don’t really see how you reform an evil cult, but Egypt does seem much more moderate than other Muslim countries after they kicked the US sponsored Muslim Brotherhood out of power. I guess you just ignore Mohammed’s teachings.

They are both totalitarian political movements. Communists couldn’t get their out as gospel, so they are adopting the Islamic model. It is working much better for them now...

Christians worship the Triune God. Nothing else.

We do not worship a concept of Allah

"Christians and Jews worship the same God"

Certainly not - for the very same reasons outlined in post #1. That's why they are different religions!

Have a look at the twice-daily Shema prayer, the most fundamental expression of Jewish belief...Hear, Israel, the Lord is our God, the Lord is One.

We are in the last age - the Laodicean, lukewarm, age. What does Jesus say is the remedy to being lukewarm? “Buy of me gold tried in the fire and you shall be rich...” (Rev 3:18). The trials we allow Him to put us through will sharpen us, burn out flesh-driven living, and make us spiritually rich toward God.

I don’t see what this issue has to do with the main issues of the day. We don’t need another religious war.

What is the salient point of most current day events is the difference in CULTURE and LAW between Islamic and traditionally Christian countries.

Beck’s latest book on Islam, “It IS About Islam” is quite critical of Islam and points out theological differences.
