FoxNews ^

In a last dash, final "hail mary" attempt to end a Donald Trump run for the White House once and for all, the National Review has decided to eviscerate the Republican front runner on the basis that he is not a conservative.

It will not work.

“This showcases just how scared the left is when it comes to Trump’s potential to tear into demographics that Democrats have largely considered theirs.”

FINALLY, someone that gets it. This is the take-away line.

While we are beat up ad nuseum about Republicans needing to attract “other than white voters”, since their white base has nowhere else to turn (other than 3rd party or staying home), virtually nothing is being said about the Democrats themselves TOTALLY REJECTING the values of white voters, and thereby PUTTING THESE VOTERS UP FOR GRABS.

Obama’s people figured they’d need something 45% of white voters to win in 2008. That’s actually not so easy. Between gays and men-hating feminists (about the only white groups that are solid Democrats), you may get 10-15% of the white vote. Beyond that, you get into the blue collar and soccer mom bunch. But the Dems have to fight for them and the EASIEST way to keep them on board is simply to get the Republicans to keep nominating people that won’t try to work for their votes (McCain, Romney, etc.).

Not happening this time.

I am principled and have truly studied the issues.
Therefore, I will not/cannot support Trump.
Thanks for trying to be a Conservative.
You fail.

Why would a principled conservative like Cruz tweet a lie like this?

"Ad exposing how Trump has used eminent domain to bulldoze an elderly woman's home to create a limo parking lot" Ted Cruz (@tedcruz) January 22, 2016

Andrea Tantaros

Pretty good piece. I agree with her. Trump would have a small place in this race. He has a big place because the GOP doesn't play adversarial politics, its members being failed cogs in a constitutional republic.

Nader is 82 or so! I didn’t realize, until looking up his birthday, that he was an attorney first.

Yeah, why does Trump the Magnificent use eminent domain and bankruptcy to stick it to the rest of us?

Bankers don’t walk away from bankruptcy. They pass the loss on to us poor slobs.

Eminent Domain in the private sector is not a victimless crime. Usually poor people take it up the arse, having to sell their property at values placed by greedy businesses.

You’re defening this? You should be on Slate. This is allegedly a conserative forum.

I think you're missing the point:

Andrea's article isn't saying vote for Trump, it's an admission that the failure of the GOPe to defend true Conservatism is what has created the "monster" Trump.

Haven't you noticed that the argument given by the elites is that the R's will never win another election and that their power will end? With the exception of Beck (who is an elite, but not a Republican elite), there are no Republican power brokers talking about saving American values. It,s always power, power, power.

Like figures in Madame Tussauds wax museum, they stand together bloodless and stiff - the dead elitists who dare go among us, the Great Unwashed. I have met some of them. Some are nice, but the majority are so elitist that they are like a synod of intellectual snobbery - out of touch with the world and stuck in the dusty rooms they write in, while becoming intoxicated by breathing in the stale air of their own gas.

This current display of solidarity is as smug as the smirk on Glenn Beck's face, one of the 22 contributors of National Review's "Against Trump" issue who should know better. Beck had an addiction problem. He went through a "change". Does this make him any less authentic or sincere in his recovery? By trying to "undefined" Trump, they are saying they can see into his heart and soul. Well, you morons, if you want to see Trump's heart and soul, look to his children. That more than anything is the measure of a man. And it is not an easy thing to bring up children. What's more, we know that Trump's admonishment to his children to not "smoke, drink, or do drugs" can be looked on as the words of someone who respects discipline. Also, Trump to my knowledge is the only candidate in recent memory to mention President Eisenhower! Are you saying that Ike wasn't considered "conservative"?

As a principled conservative do you agree with Ted tweeting a lie?

It is a lie, no amount of golal post moving or red herrings will alter the fact it is a lie.

I wasn’t responding to the article but to some Trump supporter who was whining about-I-forget-and-don’t-care-what.

I have Trump fatigue. I am worn out by his nonsense and the idiocy of his insane uninformed duped ridiculous supporters.

They are here at FR and some are long time FReepers!! I’m numb.

Off-Topic ... Roger Stone is going after Mark Levin bigtime ...

https://twitter.com/RogerJStoneJr

Someone might want to start a thread just for this. It is going to be a very interesting day on Rush, Hannity, Levin.

Sample ...

Roger Stone @RogerJStoneJr . 17h17 hours ago

Conservative? I was a senior staffer for Reagan in '76, '80 and '84 . Where was @marklevinshow ? #Trump2016

I just knew Mark stepped in it with that inexplicable Nixon reference. Stone work for both Nixon and Reagan.

And now we know why Stone stayed on the outside of the campaign. He is free to be himself. This is gonna get ugly.

Take a Valium because you are insane.

See your Psychiatrist first thing tomorrow.

Tell him you have been brainwashed by a first-rate snake oil salesman and see if he can help you.

Although I had clients for many year with psychosis and other ailments I don’t have the patience for it now.

Enjoy that!!! And don't bother thinking. It's not your thing.

May I gently draw your attention to the fact that when you point a finger, you have three pointing back at you. You know that Trump supporters do think, you just don't like that they don't think like you. And the Cruz supporters do the same thing. But if you think about it, we are all Americans, and we all have opinions. There is an old saying about that, maybe you can remember.

The thing is, throwing opinions back and forth is best done over beer so you have an excuse for you behavior in the morning. Heated rhetoric only obfuscates the fact, and that is we have two talented people vying for the top job, either of which would do a fine job. They both have a good vision for America so no matter what we are in for some happy times after this past dismal period. I just don't understand why Americans attack their fellow Americans with such vehemence, and why they trumpet the tiniest bit of misinformation, in a vain attempt to persuade someone on the other side that they are stupid. We are all Americans first so it serves no purpose to appear smarter than your fellow Americans, it only isolates you. We are all in the punch bowl together.

Who was that guy in HS that we had to read, the one who was unreadable but had that famous quote "Full of sound and fury, signifying nothing." That is what these squabbles bring to mind.

Rather ironic someone who defaults to ad hominem so fast says "and don't bother thinking. It's not your thing".
