What Democrats know (and National Review forgot)

Allow me to suggest that NR's editors and writers, instead of carrying torches and pitchforks to Trump's castle, could better have spent their time honestly asking and answering the easy question: Why has Trump happened?

By now, four months and counting since he's has been running away with the race, the answer should be obvious: It's both his issues and his manner.

On the issues, the single substantive position that catapulted Trump into the lead -- and has kept him there -- is illegal immigration. Trump was just one of the pack, and then he promised to deport the illegals and build a wall. He soared immediately to the top and has stayed there since.

*snip*

That same overwhelming majority of Republican/conservative voters is furious at the party establishment's multiple betrayals on the issue: From George W. Bush's sneak attack attempted amnesty, to Marco Rubio's apostasy on "comprehensive immigration reform," to Jeb Bush's "act of love." The leadership's illegal immigration war on its voters created a massive opportunity for a Republican candidate to be clear, tough and believable. Trump seized it. Maybe he too will betray us -- as the voters must think by now -- but the others already have.

Trump only underscored his seriousness on the issue, when he doubled down by suggesting at least a temporary halt to Muslim immigration. From Merkel to Cameron to Jeb Bush, to Rubio, the Western establishment is trying to sell the notion that Muslim immigration to the West is benign; but a substantial and growing percentage of ordinary citizens is not buying it.

Lies from those elected to office, broken campaign promises, laziness, and governmental incompetence helped create Trump’s campaign success.

I’ll tell you what the National Review types have forgot....THEY HAVE FORGOT HOW TO WIN!!

Before the Bush clan, the corrupt, self-serving Clinton and Obamie twosome, Americans were winners and respected worldwide. Look at us now.

I keep reading how The National Review Crew hate Trump, so, who is their man of choice? I know it’s not Cruz, they hate him as much as they hate Trump. So, who is it? Why don’t they name who they are backing?

Well written and thought out. It captures why Trump is winning and why the establishment are idiots.

Excellent points!

Regardless of Trump or Cruz, we’re seeing the establishment piss itself and getting a rather large peek behind the curtains.

It is useful to note that of the entire NR anti-Trump gaggle, not one, to my knowledge, has ever held elective office, nor to my knowledge has ever run for office.

Yet they presume to tell voters what to do. I call them "armchair conservatives" because they never actually get off their butts and do anything.

That’s one way to look at it. National Review is like the rest of the ‘G’ OP — they had not seen a non-Bush republican in the White House since Reagan.

That’s a long time.

Oh let the Cruz supporters spew. They had a VERY painful weekend. Their candidate seemed incredibly powerful — supporting him seemed to be a ‘no brainer’.

A lot of them are caught up in inertia.

Nope, I’ll point out hypocrisy when I see it.

They get no empathy from me after how they’ve acted.

Here’s an excellent post summarizing what Trump supporters have had to endure:

It only applies to you if you are in the category stated, like the poster I wrote to.

Certainly you can see the difference between the civil Cruz supporters and the vicious ones here that go on Trump threads, not to attack Trump but to attack every Trump supporter as well.

I’m pretty much sick of it.

They’ve congregated on another website because their tempted tantrums here didn’t get all the Trump threads pulled or the Trump supporters banned. Abd they are bashing FR relentlessly. That’s the kind of Cruz supporter I am referring to.

You mean like the Trump supporters who go on Cruz thread not to attack Cruz but to attack every Cruz supporter as well. Are you aware there is a poster who has been accusing Mark Levin of only supporting Cruz because Cruz got him sex. The poster is still allowed to post here. If that isn’t disgusting, nothing is.

I’m very sick of it, but I’m pretty sure I’ll have the last laugh.

Nothing says benign more than an attempt to cut off our heads and hanging the bodies from the nearest bridge or lamp post. On one side we have our congress critters attempting to persuade WTP to be tolerant and friendly to all savages of the world; while on the opposite side of the coin, WTP KNOW what is going on in the world - and the results are far from pretty, or friendly. If those who hold in their hands such high ‘intelligence’ then why oh why do they not understand the reasons as to why WTP feel the way WE DO? Are they such fools? Yes, just as we remember the elitists in their attempts in Mississippi, we also remember GW Bush attempting to sneak in amnesty when it was felt no one was paying attention or listening to the uproars heard in DC. In the end - common Americans have no country they are able to call their own. DC is so far above and away from us we here on the fruited plains are unheard and forgotten (until such time our votes might be needed) Trump, for real or soon to be found as despicable as the next one, gives signs that HE DOES HEAR US and as of yet he is the ONLY one of the few who speaks to US! This country is broken and IMHO beyond repair. To fit the slivers into place again will be a very long process and one which most men would never dream of accomplishing.
