Lord: The RNC’s Promised Conservative Debate Goes Missing
Conservative Review ^ | 1/25/16 | Jeffrey Lord

Posted on 01/25/2016 1:52:37 PM PST by don-o

This headline in Politico says everything you need to know about why Donald Trump and Ted Cruz are leading in GOP polls:

How the RNC squashed its only conservative-media debate

The Washington Times and Liberty University were planning for a year. And then the Republican Party pulled the plug.

The story amazes. Among other things it says this:

More than a year ago, huddled in secret, the Republican National Committee began negotiations with conservative news organizations to wrest at least one presidential primary debate from the grip of the mainstream media. It was to be an event by and for the GOP's base, free of the constraints of a big network, to ensure candidates a forum to speak about conservative issues in a conservative frame for conservative voters.

...When the RNC announces today (January 20th) that The Washington Times will be teaming up with CNN for the final GOP debate, it will mark the end of a tense months-long negotiation among the conservative media outlet, the campaigns, television networks and the GOP. It was a battle that scarred the newspaper, sidelined a senior RNC official and threatened to damage the Republicans' relationship with one of the most influential evangelical voices in the country.

...The debate would have been a first on several counts. There would have been no network controlling the debate; the signal would have been an open feed, meaning anyone could broadcast the debate or live stream it on their site.

snip

Months ago I wrote a piece in this space expressing what seemed an obvious thought: Where is the Conservative Debate? An idea that surely was not original to me, but seemingly obvious. Among other things I said there would be fertile ground to be covered for conservatives--the base of the GOP--by asking questions like these:

Was Ted Cruz right or wrong to lead the 2013 effort to defund ObamaCare?

Have you read Professor Angelo Codevilla's "The Ruling Class"? If so, please comment.

If you are or could be a senator, would you vote to re-elect Mitch McConnell as majority leader?

The RNC issued a so-called "autopsy report" after the 2012 election. Have you read it and what do you agree or disagree with?

Have you read Mark Levin's "The Liberty Amendments"? Do you agree with Mark that "the principles undergirding" American society are unraveling? And would you support an Article V convention that would propose constitutional amendments to be ratified by three-fourths of the states?

Can't risk not having the left dictate who our nominee is. Can't have that!

Qy RE: Your tagline

Sarcastic or serious?

It’s getting more and more difficult to discern.

I’m quoting an article headline in my tagline.

The enmity of Bob Dole is a backhanded endorsement of Cruz to any conservative.

Thought so....

But I have had what I considered slam dunk sarcasm be misinterpreted.

So how are you going to get a network to run the show? It is extremely expensive to do this. Of course complaining is so much easier then using the noggin.

Oligarchies and dictatorships do not permit those they rule from being able to see the truth and perhaps disrupt their holds on power.

That is why the DNC debates are on Saturday nights, or during playoff games.

An ignorant populace is a populace that can be steered to thinking the way the Praetorian/Pravda propaganda outlet of the Beast on the Potomac wants them to think.

The UniParty has already been hard at work telling us what a “Conservative is” - and they dare not let we, the Plebes, see through the charlatan curtain of their ‘shells’ that they placed before us as the candidates.

Of course the Uniparty GOP decided to yank the plug from an actual Conservative debate taking place away from the media monopoly and making it available to everyone.

Of course complaining is so much easier then using the noggin.

Friendly advice. Hold yourself back from commenting about others noggin.

Feed would have been made available to any and all. Who can know how that would have worked out? But, RNC made sure we did not find out.

It would be a no brainier with the persons involved. And if they (the networks)didn’t, so what. It would be an open stream to any browser on any device.

Their loss. No ad dollars for them.

I am sure I am not the only one who noticed that the RNC only pulled the plug on the traveling circus that was the Republican Presidential Debates in 2012 after Donald Trump tried to host one.

As if the GOP is some victim that just can't escape the grip of the leftist media. No, they had to go in secret to try desperately to slip in one debate and hope their TV news overlors wouldn't catch on. Uh huh.

Worthless dribble from you. Just once I wish you would provide something of substance on this site. I have been waiting for years. Oh well. I guess I will continue to wait. You have changed over the years big time. Not sure what happened to you. Probably nice until we get comfortable and then attack. Nice. I understand that you are a Christian? I just hope this is not your true self and in real life you are a nice person.

*National Review sabotaged it.*

I don’t see how anyone can see it otherwise- the consequence of their act was unavoidable.

Of course they could be replaced by responsible conservative moderators... Rush?
