The thing is, Reagan may have been a Democrat, but even when he was a Democrat he was speaking out and fighting against communists in Hollywood. Noticed this was a FR thread back in 2002.

The Donald has fought against and spoken out against what exactly as a private citizen or businessman? I know, I know, he “wrote” about illegals and so forth. And tweeted out about amnesty for them after we secure our borders in 2013.
Donald J. Trump Verified account
â@realDonaldTrump
Congress must protect our borders first. Amnesty should be done only if the border is secure and illegal immigration has stopped.
But since June of 2015, he is absolute, positively the biggest border hawk and invasion stopper alive- which conveniently is a position he took right when he announced his entry into the campaign.
And the guy has the nerve to say Cruz was for amnesty because he “worked for Bush”.
Why?
It was good for business.
Trump has a history of choosing personal gain over the best interests of the United States
This I believe:
When President Trump has to choose between the USA and Trump Enterprises, the USA will lose Anyone who thinks Trump will govern against the best interests of Trump Enterprises is a fool.
Apparently you don’t remember the efforts that the media and the Bush wing went to trying to defeat Reagan. He was portrayed as crazy, out of touch, a B rate actor, an evil right winger, old, confused, anti science, etc etc
You won’t get an argument from me.

Cruz is the most Reaganesque candidate.
Ronald Reagan didn’t change his registration 6 times, nor did he promote Big Government solutions, as certain Republican candidates do.
I was Cruz #1 and Trump #2 but Trump has ruined it for me. I’ve been doing a LOT of research on the man (gut feeling) and there is no way I will vote for him. EVER.
Who is the REAL Ted Cruz?

Oh I remember that too
So Cruz was correct, Reagan wasn’t a Democrat for 60 years.
More relevant is that Reagan spent many more years deeply involved in the conservative movement and winning office as a Republican after his switch than Trump has.
Perhaps you know that Trump and his dad were extremely active in the Reagan campaign in MY?
The real Ted Cruz is the one that we see. Period.
Flip-Flopped on Legal Immigration:
Townhallâs Guy Benson: âCruz has flip-flopped dramatically on a number of his previous immigration views.â
âIn response, Rubio charged that Cruz supported mass legalization of illegal immigrants and proposed huge increases in federal issuance of certain immigration visas and green cards. Cruz shook his head throughout Rubioâs rejoinder, but Rubio was correct on these points. Cruz has flip-flopped dramatically on a number of his previous immigration views. The Texan shot back, âit is not accurate, what he just said, that I supported legalization.â Sorry, Senator. Itâs on tape.â (Townhall, Guy Benson, 12/16/15)
Flip-Flopped on H-1B Visas:
In an election year, Cruz said âhe would suspend the H-1B program.â
âCruz said he would suspend the H-1B program for 180 days while he audited the system for abuses, abandoning his prior support for a 500% increase in the high-tech program.â (CNN, 11/13/15)
âCruz sharply distanced himself from his long-held plan to increase the number of visas for high-tech workers by 500%.â
âA month prior, Cruz sharply distanced himself from his long-held plan to increase the number of visas for high-tech workers by 500%. Under fire from conservative talk radio hosts who said he was imperiling American workers, Cruz said he would suspend the program for 180 days until it could be reformed to his liking.â (CNN, 12/1/7/15)
In 2013, Senator Cruz offered an amendment that would increase the H-1B Visa program from 65,000 to 325,000.
âDuring the 2013 immigration debate, the Texas senator proposed an amendment to the comprehensive âgang of eightâ Senate bill that he boasted would âdramatically increas[e]â the annual limit on H-1B skilled guest worker visasâfrom 65,000 to 325,000âa five-fold expansion.â (Bloomberg, 8/20/15)
