Where the comparison between Trump and Reagan fails is that Reagan was a conservative for more than 20 years before running for President. By that time, he had an extensive record of speaking, writing and campaigning for conservative principles and candidates, in addition to 2 terms as governor. During the past 20 years, Trump has jumped from Republican to Democrat to Reform and back again; has supported conservative candidates and issues and liberal candidates and issues and back again.
Trump supporters certainly can choose to accept that Trump's conversion to conservatism is sincere, and believe that he will keep true to what he promises now. But based on his record, can you understand why many are unwilling to take that much on faith when his record is spotty on some of these issues at best, and the fate of the country is at stake?
Trump is not mentioned in this article...this is a different article it’s about Cruz and Reagan...
The thing is, Reagan may have been a Democrat, but even when he was a Democrat he was speaking out and fighting against communists in Hollywood. Noticed this was a FR thread back in 2002.

The Donald has fought against and spoken out against what exactly as a private citizen or businessman? I know, I know, he “wrote” about illegals and so forth. And tweeted out about amnesty for them after we secure our borders in 2013.

Congress must protect our borders first. Amnesty should be done only if the border is secure and illegal immigration has stopped.
But since June of 2015, he is absolute, positively the biggest border hawk and invasion stopper alive- which conveniently is a position he took right when he announced his entry into the campaign.
And the guy has the nerve to say Cruz was for amnesty because he “worked for Bush”.
