Volunteers worry about 2-tier system as some newcomers face isolation in Canada.

Some government-sponsored Syrian refugees staying at a budget hotel in Toronto say they feel like they're "trapped in a prison" without hope due to a lack of communication, supplies and assistance.

Virginia Johnson, one of two volunteers working at the hotel, joined CBC Radio's Metro Morning on Monday to speak to host Matt Galloway....

What? They aren’t getting VIP treatment in a 4 star hotel? I guess they should have stayed in Syria.

[[sponsored refugees say they’re not getting much help, and would rather go back to their refugee camps in Jordan and Lebanon. ]]

Nothing is ever good enough for these lawless ungrateful people. They should pack their bags and not let the door hit them where the sun doesn’t shine.

These are people who wouldn’t stand up for their government when the foreign initiatives promoted unrest. Sorry, but it’s way beyond believable that toppling governments was anything but a very bad idea for the citizens of the country.

Some of the 85 government-sponsored refugees say they're not getting much help, and would rather go back to their refugee camps in Jordan and Lebanon.

And... this is a problem, how, exactly? They wish to go back to their refugee camps in other countries -so how is it anyone feels the need to dissuade them from what they truly desire? I though liberal do-gooders were all about 'feelings'?

The refugee importing business is quite profitable in the U.S. from what I’ve heard, no doubt some Canadian pockets were lined to “settle” them there.

What a missed opportunity!

These people need to be fed and shown how to use a faucet. They need to be shown when and how to use toilet paper, toilet, bathtub, shower.

This is a perfect time to pipe through social expectations utilizing the tv that is most likely in their room such as ..men, thou shalt not rape thy neighbor’s son, nor shall you circumcise they neighbor’s daughter, nor shall you touch the women in the street, grocery store or bar. This is how they dress, and they don’t belong to YOU.

You may not lop off the heads of the natives, nor shall you cut off anybody’s hands.

The only halal restaurant in town is Burger King, and the Chinese restaurant next door doesn’t buy kosher peas even if it says kosher on the box. Just don’t eat the chicken. ;)

I mean geeze Louise! These people are walking out of the 15th century and they don’t know how to act! Integrate them before letting them out of the hotel room. Show them how to act in public! Teach them the basic laws of humanity, how to count money, etc and so on.

Simple things like washing one’s hands (and why), where to throw the toilet paper, what deodorant is, where and how to apply it...things we grew up with and take for granted are foreign and strange to these folks.

I don’t mean to be nasty, but from first hand experience, some of these folks don’t know to sit on the toilet, and they poop on the floor! d

They can be taught alternatives to burkas so they can fit in and still adhere to what’s important to them; being covered and modest but when a person stands out in a crowd they’re going to be stared at. Long coats, a pretty scarf, shirts with long sleeves and slacks..alternatives.

I don’t like Islam any better than the average american, but if they have to come here against their will, and we have to have them here against our will/better judgement, let’s not become animals...or even less heartless and cruel than an animal.

I don’t know about you, but I like to think I’m better than that, and that my countrymen/women are too. I think we have a God-given mandate to feed our enemies...at least my book says we do. If we don’t show them God in us, and they turn on us, they probably have good reason. But if we do show them the mercy of God in us, and they turn on us, then woe is them.

Nobody said friendly, just merciful. Kind...as in meeting human needs. Diapers for babies. Do they have disposable diapers in the desert, in Syria? or Baby wipes? Then they need to be shown how to use them.

Is anybody doing that? You know..teaching them these things? Got churches? What are they doing? Got a social services office? Call and ask and see what is going on.

Go as pairs...male and female. No wimpy men..strong personality, no-nonsense alpha type men (do they exist?) but not a hateful man. Men teach men, women teach women. And know in advance...the wife WILL tell her husband every word you say.

Just some thoughts. I wouldn’t want to be in their country with no way out, stuck in a culture in which I was taught was the ‘’great satan’’, and not know what I need to do to survive. That’s just human.

“Show them how to act in public! Teach them the basic laws of humanity, how to count money, etc and so on.”

And one of the first items should be to introduce them to toilet paper. I don’t think this business of wiping your a$$ with your hand is going to win you many friends in 21st century Canada.

“I thought we were going to the free world. This is Toronto!”

Not the first people to make that mistake.
