What Ailes Trump? [UPDATE: Corey Lewandowski]
The American Spectator ^ | January 27, 2016 | Arnold Steinberg

[SNIP]

UPDATE:

Now more of the story is coming out. We can see what provoked Roger Ailes.

In a more complete statement issued last night, Fox erred again in editorializing, "We're not sure how Iowans are going to feel about him walking away from them at the last minute...." Rather than stick to the facts, Fox then argued for journalistic integrity, a reasonable point, but more of concern to insiders than to the masses.

It's one thing for Trump to say he'll pull out and Fox ratings will be hurt. It's quite another to carry a vendetta and threaten the would-be moderator. Here's what is significant. Fox claims Trump's campaign manager threatened Megyn Kelly. Fox last night in its longer statement asserted, "Trump's campaign manager Corey Lewandowski... in a call on Monday with a Fox News executive... stated that Megyn had a 'rough couple of days after the last debate' and he (Lewandoski) 'would hate to have her go through that again.'"

The reality is that Trump supporters will cut a lot of slack for Trump, but not for Lewandowski. If he crossed the line and used the language quoted, he showed bad judgment. Or - as Trump might say - Lewandowski is a "lightweight" and "stupid." Trump has a reputation for backing up his people. Still, don't be surprised if he repudiates Lewandowski. Trump may be a match for Roger Ailes. Corey Lewandowski is not.

... that’s not a threat, as far as I can see.

Here’s a sample:

Now let’s say you are Donald Trump, the scariest Republican that any Democrat has seen in ages. What is the one best thing he can do to separate himself from the Republican machine and show that he can be a deal-maker for everyone? Answer: Punch FOX News in the mouth. Right in front of you.

Democrats are watching. Trump is framing himself as an enemy of their enemy. (Democrats hate FOX News.)

Trump’s setup here is pure genius. He doesn’t know how it will end, but he is making sure he goes where the odds are deeply in his favor.

That’s a system, not a goal. Once you see the world that way, it makes a lot more sense.

WHAT "threat"?

The only threat that has been made and WILL be carried out is cutting the legs out from under Faux News with reduced viewership, reduced incoming advertiser revenue, and that is a very good thing.

GO TRUMP GO!!!

The real threat was FOX is going for a “killshot” on Trump.

I see no threat made to FOX or the nasty _itch.

Megyn has been known to have issues with being delusional.

Sounds like Lewandowski was being sarcastic.

Sick of the debate big show game already. I do like the Cruz challenge for a one on one with Trump. Let’s have a real issues debate playoff with the top 2 frontrunners.

Vendetta? Threat? LOL! The sauce just gets weaker and weaker.

Trump has the right idea here, choosing instead to hold a benefit event for wounded veterans at the same time in a bid to trash Fox’s ad revenue and viewership in that time slot.

Go TRUMP!

“We’re not sure how Iowans are going to feel about him walking away from them at the last minute.”

Since when did the press become Iowa? LOL!

He goes to the people, and they come to him. The press is relegated to covering, not controlling.

stated that Megyn had a 'rough couple of days after the last debate' and he (Lewandoski) 'would hate to have her go through that again.'"

This is pure ignorance. That's isn't a threat even if delivered by the Mafia. It isn't structured like a threat, it contains no promise of future harm, and it rises all the way to how someone 'feels'.

In other words, it's SARCASM.

But, why expect honesty from a media that for months has left the word "temporary" off of Trump's words about 'banning Muslims'.

Was it smart to walk away from the Muslim trap Ailes set for Trump?

A truly great test. We have a debate that will be scored . . . endlessly. Then an Iowa primary. No speculation is meaningful. Only results which we will see sooner than next months cable ratings come out.

Can’t wait to see.

That is because Ted realizes he’s the target if Donald is not there. He’s trying to make some lemonade.

Being the target is the best place to be, to demonstrate your chops. This is a windfall for Cruz.

Since FOX network is promoting that TV show Lucifer they can go to his place too AFAIC. Having to watch that promo crap for that show during the NFL championship game turned me off bigtime.
Flux FOX for promoting things of the devil. I’ll pass on the debate too, Rope us Mud Ox and Ailing Roger can sell their souls but I ain’t buying.

Perhaps. Ted did not strike me as very agile in the last debate. He will have everyone up there taking shots at him. How he comes out of that is TBD, but he does not have Donald’s reality distortion field capabilities.

The RNC rules forbid any unsanctioned debate.

I assume Sen Cruz knows this. Should either or both participate in such an event, they would be barred from any future RNC debates.

Either Cruz is floating this out there for sh*ts & giggles, or he may not actually be the Most Intelligent Man Who Has Ever Served In The Senate in the history of the world.

Or, he’s just a political hack.
