I was so impressed with Trump’s graciousness in inviting them and then giving them the stage, in Iowa, on national TV, three days before caucus.
A clear indication I think that he respects them and wanted their participation to raise money for the vets, politics be damned.

I think they both indicated interest in coming and he invited them to come on down.

They were both there to damage Cruz and help themselves. Huckabee especially. Huckster is noted for making pacts with other losers an attempt to damage the person that will makes him (Huck) improve his numbers. e.g. deny Romney his win in WV—a win to help mc cain make consecutive primary wins.

Huck and Santorum both inquired the Trump campaign about attending. Trump than responded by inviting them to attend.

Except Trump isn’t a loser. He’s leading every poll. In fact he’s doubled second place on the latest Drudge debate poll and he wasn’t even there!

Rick and Huck are good men. Yet, both of them are sucking up to Trump in an attempt to diminish Cruz in attempt to climb to second place.
The unfortunate reality is that Trump is solidly on top, and everyone smells Cruz's blood in the water.
There's no underestimating ambition and the "Cult of Personality" when it comes to undermining Constitutional conservatism.

How did they damage Cruz? The last two winners just about endorsed Trump. Huck and Rick just help Trump, especially with the people Cruz is counting on to win Iowa. Both of whom really don't like Cruz, but then who does? And they improved their future job prospects immensely.

They endorsed Trump, without having to endorse Trump outright, just by attending the event. Both are staunchly pro life, and Huck is (I believe) an ordained minister. Iowans will take note of this.
