It was really “close” on the LEO being / not being hit, as it was. If Finicum had hit the gas / deliberately swerved to try to hit the LEO, he might well have succeeded.

As a postscript to your comment on Finicum’s dominant hand, my Dad learned to shoot rifles and shotguns left handed, until the Army convinced him to change.
We both worked on ranches and had dominant hands, but I did a lot of things left handed.

Generally people are arrested for crimes not shot to death when their hands are In the air and no weapons visible- had this been a black person- towns would be burning tonight and there is no way a video like that would have been released as the black community would NOT accept that a man with his hands In the air was shot by white officers- But because it’s a white person who belonged to an icky militia, it’s fine to release the video for the reasons mentioned above and I the other thread

I think I saw some puffs comes off the truck. Another scenario could be Finicum might have thought they were all going to be killed so he surrendered, or tried to.

In other words, that road block ambush was there waiting in a blind sweeping curve. They had no time to stop and why he avoided the road block by swerving off the road into the snow.
