Obama Moves to Expand Rules Aimed at Closing Gender Pay Gap
New York Times ^ | January 29, 2016 | JULIE HIRSCHFELD DAVIS

WASHINGTON -- The Obama administration will move on Friday to require companies to report to the federal government what they pay employees by race, gender and ethnicity, part of a push by President Obama to crack down on firms that pay women less for doing the same work as men.

The new rules, Mr. Obama's latest bid to use his executive power to address a priority of his that Congress has resisted acting on, would mandate that companies with 100 employees or more include salary information on a form they already submit annually that reports employees' sex, age and job groups.

"Too often, pay discrimination goes undetected because of a lack of accurate information about what people are paid," said Jenny Yang, the chairwoman of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, which will publish the proposed regulation jointly with the Department of Labor. "We will be using the information that we're collecting as one piece of information that can inform our investigations."

The requirement would expand on an executive order Mr. Obama issued nearly two years ago that called for federal contractors to submit salary information for women and men. Ms. Yang said the rules would be completed in September, with the first reports due a year later.

"Bridging the stubborn pay gap between men and women in the work force has proven to be very challenging," said Valerie Jarrett, a senior adviser to Mr. Obama, noting that the median wage for women amounts to 79 percent of that for men. "We have seen progress, but it isn't enough."

White House officials said that the requirement was intended to bolster the government's ability to penalize companies that engage in discriminatory pay practices and to encourage businesses to police themselves better and correct such disparities.

But it’s NOT the same work!

That garbage about women being paid less is from a huge pool of “workers”. Not shocking that women work less, and have fewer of the high-paying professional jobs.

I have zero complaints about my pay while I was an engineer. Although, I wasn’t trying to find out how much everyone was paid. But anyway, I was satisfied.

In many ways people set their own pay. I’ve talked with HR people who always try to get people at as low a salary as possible. In general, women are willing to accept less money than men during negotiations for that all important ‘Starting Salary in your first real job.” Why? Who knows why. It’s just a fact. HR people are put into a bind because it’s their job to save money, not help the PC crowd get political victories.

In another side note, HR companies absolutely love when they get qualified minorities. It’s a breath of fresh air. Everyone is doing their part but, the problem is many minorities aren’t the best candidates and again, is it the job of the HR department to solve some social issue? No. It’s their job to get highly qualified candidates.

All the Feds can do is screw it all up, like they usually do. People are in control of their own lives. It’s just that simple.

You know what?

I’m past caring.

I’d refuse the fine, too. They’d shut down my company, of course.

And I’d start a new one.

Overseas.

I no longer G.A.F. what this evil, perverted, Satanic government thinks or does.

Yup, if you are a decent sized company you already have to comply with OFCCP rules that you report to the Government how many women and minorities are applying for your jobs, being interviewed, and getting hired. This is just adding another column to the report.

Government at work — “Fixing” yet another non-existent problem very much like “global warming” and “’net neutrality”.

The article said, whether or not they have federal contracts, this is going to be for ALL employers of 100 or more according to the article. And they should JUST SAY NO

The gender “pay gap” is as mythical as global warming. A lie that is accepted as truth only because of it’s proliferate recitation.

They want EQUAL and report MEDIAN?

I found apples in my orange juice this morning.

...noting that the median wage for women amounts to 79 percent of that for men.

I wonder what the 'median' job is for both genders?

Long before it is posted to the public, the Russian, Chinese, Bulgarian, Brazilian, French, Israeli, Pakistani and other governments will have their own copies much like Hillary Clinton’s emails, Lois Lerner’s emails, millions of OPM files, and millions of Social Security numbers.

“That is what they do at the university where I work. There is no merit pay and everyone gets the same raises.”

Is your university unionized or just poorly managed?
