Early Nielsen ratings show that Thursday night's Fox News debate was the second-lowest rated debate of the primary season, according to a CNN report.
Without Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump participating, the debate got an 8.4 Nielsen rating, according to the report.
That's better than the previous debate hosted by Fox Business Network, which got a 7.4 Nielsen rating. But that was a strong number for Fox Business Network, which is less widely available than Fox News and CNN. Thursday's rating would be much smaller than the 15.9 Nielsen rating for the first GOP debate hosted by Fox News in August.

The moderators' attacks were obvious. Cruz calmly addressed their pointed questions, then went on to make his own points.
It was easy for viewers to see why Trump wanted to duck the debate.
Cruz and Rubio always come off as presidential. Last night Cruz withstood the most withering attacks and Rubio was more hyperactive than he typically is.
The last debate was held on Fox Business News, a third tier cable channel many systems do not carry. Nice try, though. LOL!
