Why actor Clint Howard is campaigning for Ted Cruz
CNN ^ | January 29, 2016 | Chris Moody

Posted on 01/29/2016 12:14:09 PM PST by justlittleoleme

You might remember him as Balok the creepy child alien in "Star Trek" or the geeky flight controller in "Apollo 13", but this week, actor Clint Howard is far from Hollywood, working as a volunteer phone banker for Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz in Iowa.

Howard donated to Cruz's campaign last year and flew to Des Moines to support him before the caucuses. On Wednesday night, he was among hundreds of others at a Cruz rally here to promote Cruz's campaign and oppose abortion.

"Over the years I've grown more conservative," Howard told CNN after the event. "I've come to realize that if in fact it does hurt me in the entertainment business, at this point in my life, that's OK. The cloth's been cut. I am who I am."

-snip-

As for the other candidates in the race, Howard said he doesn't think Trump is up to the job of president and that it was "frightening" that Democrat Bernie Sanders had gained so much traction.

"Donald Trump is a remarkable man in terms of being able to sell himself, but let us not forget he was a television star for many years. That resonates with the public. I understand that because I know the business well. He is speaking what a lot of people somewhere in their heart kind of have," he said. "He says it in a rough, rough way, like the character in 'Network' who said 'I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!' Well, the Donald is doing that and it's pretty effective. But I must really consider, will he be a good president? And that's, in my mind, where the conversation stops."

Ron gets his looks from his dad. Clint has his mother's eyes. (She played Jim Lovell's mom in Apollo 13).

If not for Ron’s hard work, Clint would be a bum. Ron gives him jobs on his movies. Clint basically takes assistance from his brother and would not have a thing without him. Typical that he would support Cruz who has had a life time of the government taking care of him.

No sub-references to Tranya? It’s a wonderful drink. You guys are slipping.

Clint Howard has been in many dozens of films and television shows only a few of which had anything to do with his brother. But thanks for skipping a nap to insert an irrelevant jibe at Cruz. Can your “Participation Award” be sent directly to the home or do they not allow you to receive packages?

God I can’t wait for Monday night when you idiots get slammed. It is going to be a beautiful thing. I will be laughing all night. It may end up being the most important decision that Americans have ever made. Sending Cruz back to his government job and his paid vacation over. Lord I can’t wait.

Ah Yes, I remember him from Star Trek. He was the head of the First Federation. He and Kirk and the gang drank “Tranya” together.

“He was that Star Trek guy, and the mass murderer who also left good tips for foodservers on Seinfeld.”

No thanks, Leon!

After reading the other comments, I was afraid I was the only one who remembered him as little Leon from The Andy Griffith Show!

It's great that Clint is finally not worried anymore about Ronnie cutting off his allowance.

Like I always said:

Clint Howard is the luckiest man in Hollywood (because he's Ron Howard's brother).

And the most unluckiest (because he's Ron Howard's brother).

While Clint isn’t an “A List” actor, he’s a well established character actor in his own right, and the majority of the roles he has had have had nothing to do with Ron Howard. Shame on you for telling petty lies about the guy just because he doesn’t support your idol.

While his family got him into Hollywood, he mainly does character work unrelated to his family.

He has a unique look so movies cast him when they need weird looking guys.

I’ll say. And BS....if he wasn’t Ron’s brother he wouldn’t even have gotten the non Ron jobs. Don’t be a dang delusional person. It is not becoming.
