I don’t consider Trump’s numbers much of a loss. Trump results were won with one hand tied behind his back. He has not had the experience running a campaign. Cruz’s election to the U.S. Senate gave him great experience running a campaign. Cruz’s victory may be an inch deep with the huge effort put in by 12,000 volunteers working Iowa for months. I would have expected a bigger win. Why not?

Cruz visited every county and didn’t crack 30% in an evangelical state.

Why?

Santorum and Huckabee were previous winners with some support. Those votes likely would have gone to Cruz, but didn’t. Not only that they both bashed Cruz and hate the guy.

Carson’s support is largely among evangelicals. He polled nine percent of the vote and likely lost a couple points due to the Cruz dirty tricks.

With those three out, Cruz could have scored 30 percent plus this go round.

But he got the win and 8 delegates.

Good luck to him in New Hampshire. That’s a tough state for Cruz.
