Windham, New Hampshire (CNN)The day after winning the Iowa caucuses, Ted Cruz issued an apology to Republican rival Ben Carson for falsely telling Iowa caucusgoers that the retired neurosurgeon planned to quit the race, calling it a "mistake."
Cruz said in a statement Tuesday that his campaign staff saw a CNN report that Carson was dropping out, although CNN had not characterized Carson's actions that way.
"Last night when our political team saw the CNN post saying that Dr. Carson was not carrying on to New Hampshire and South Carolina, our campaign updated grassroots leaders just as we would with any breaking news story," Cruz said in a statement first shared with CNN. "That's fair game. What the team then should have done was send around the follow-up statement from the Carson campaign clarifying that he was indeed staying in the race when that came out."

THANK YOU! Serious discernment issues with Cruz. Truthfully, though, I don’t think Cruz “fell for McConnell’s lies”. I think Cruz voted exactly the way he wanted to — the way he was cajoled into voting by his GOPe cohorts. Being a lawyer, he had his weasel-word rationalization already prepared, i.e., blaming it on Mitch.
Cruz is also lying about Trump filing ‘bankruptcy’.
I know what a Chapter 11 Bko is...and so does the lying Cruz campaign. He’s supposed to be this great lawyer...if so, he KNOWS he is lying.
It is reorganization..the creditors get paid! He could have filed Chap. 7 and liquidated them, but he didn’t.

Trump himself has never filed for bankruptcy. Out of his hundreds of corporations four have filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. By filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, the corporation is allowed to continue running while restructuring and reducing its debt. By allowing the business to continue, employees still have their jobs and the business is still making money. Corporate debts still need to be repaid but they may be reduced. The corporation must develop a repayment plan and corporate budget. Both must be approved by the creditors and by the bankruptcy court.

I think Trump is what this country needs at this moment in time. Everyone is hanging crepe coz’ Trump came in second...he’s still in it to win it, and will have many victories hereafter imo. I like Cruz, too, but his citizenship status gives me pause and the fact he has done to settle the issue, plus the fact he’s a politician first and foremost, and I would worry a bit about more of the same. If I could wish it so, I would like to see Trump win and Cruz be a big part of his administration. Early days.

It was NOT breaking news. It had been reported hours earlier -- and denied by Carson's camp. Yet for another 4-6 hours the Cruz people kept it alive, and even embellished it, sending out texts and emails and telling hundreds or thousands of caucus goers the lie -- even when Caron's own wife was present. Revolting. Class act my ass.

Exactly. It was a deceptive play, not worthy of the person trying to be the "most Christian".
This was a story that broke about an hour before the caucuses opened and developed throughout the evening. What happened was a fog of war sort of situation not a dirty trick. Still don’t understand Carson abandoning his troops during the caucus to fly home for R&R that is just bizarre and made it very believable that he was about to drop out of the race.
