Windham, New Hampshire (CNN)The day after winning the Iowa caucuses, Ted Cruz issued an apology to Republican rival Ben Carson for falsely telling Iowa caucusgoers that the retired neurosurgeon planned to quit the race, calling it a "mistake."
Cruz said in a statement Tuesday that his campaign staff saw a CNN report that Carson was dropping out, although CNN had not characterized Carson's actions that way.
"Last night when our political team saw the CNN post saying that Dr. Carson was not carrying on to New Hampshire and South Carolina, our campaign updated grassroots leaders just as we would with any breaking news story," Cruz said in a statement first shared with CNN. "That's fair game. What the team then should have done was send around the follow-up statement from the Carson campaign clarifying that he was indeed staying in the race when that came out."

Didn’t I see a lot of postings this morning claiming Carson was lying and Cruz and his people did no such thing.

Didn’t you see the part where the CNN story did not characterize it the same way Cruz and his staff did?
He apologized but said it was CNN's fault. "Well done" would've been to get two more sources, preferably directly from the campaign to confirm.
A real apology would be trying to figure out the damage and deduct those supporters from their total. Would that cost Cruz any of his Caucus pluralities?

Note CNN got the story first. Their coverage of Cruz is FAR SUPERIOR to FNC. Some of libs on CNN applauded his standing by his ethanol position under extreme pressure.

Story was twisted by Steve King and others. I am pleased Cruz apologized for his team’s reprehensible behavior.
Well lesson learned. Politics is a blood sport, never get caught in the crossfire between rival campaigns.

Incompetence or a deliberate lie? Whatever, there should be some real consequences for a calculated effort by the Cruz campaign aimed at swinging Carson votes to Cruz under false information.
"Carson looks like he is out. Iowans need to know before they vote. Most will go to Cruz, I hope," King tweeted. In another tweet, the congressman said Carson's next steps were "equivalent of suspending."

It was a dirty trick. He knew what he was doing. It hacked me off that Cruz people were claiming he did no such thing when it is exactly what they did.
But in politics, all is fair I suppose.
I’m glad he did this. If he was wrong he should admit it.
CNN is characterizing it’s report differently now. However, last night CNN media personalities were tweeting out that Carson was not going to carry on his campaign to New Hampshire and South Carolina.
