What about all those children born on US Military bases overseas, some only have 1 US Citizen parent some 2. But they have dual citizenship at birth, they must renounce 1 before coming of age. Step Daughter had both Japanese and US Embassy BC’s. And a US Passport by the time she was 3 days old. US Foreign Military bases are NOT US SOIL. She had to be reminded of the fact she had to renounce the Japanese citizenship when she became of age.

I know several people with dual citizenship. Our State Department doesn’t care if you have citizenship with another country. It does caution people with dual citizenship to be careful about which passport they use to travel out of and back into the US.

The soil is NOT the litmus test, the test is ‘allegiance’, EXCLUSIVE allegiance to the United States and THAT is why those who serve in the military should NOT marry foreigners while serving abroad and if they do, they then should refrain from having children UNTIL they are living back in the US and the foreign spouse has legally become a US citizen. As for those serving abroad where BOTH the spouses are US citizens, it can never be claimed that one serving abroad has quited their country and therefore, any children born to them overseas is “EXCLUSIVELY” a US citizen from birth as NEITHER parent owed allegiance to the government of the foreign country where they were stationed.
