CHICAGO (AP) — Officials with Chicago Public Schools said Tuesday they're ready to cut $100 million from school budgets and force teachers to pay more pension costs after their union rejected the latest contract offer, ratcheting up the tone of contentious negotiations that have lasted over a year.

Schools CEO Forrest Claypool called the union's rejection "disheartening" and cost-cutting efforts — including potential layoffs of support staff like teachers' aides — necessary without a deal. Chicago Teachers Union President Karen Lewis shot back, calling the announcement the "latest act of war" and saying teachers in the nation's third-largest district would protest this week.

Yeah, you really have to feel sorry for them. After all, they only get almost 3 months off during the summer, two-plus weeks at Christmas, a week at Spring and Fall breaks, a couple of days at Thanksgiving, all the while struggling on only $71,000+ a year.

Putting the government in charge of anything is not a very good idea. Allowing government employees to unionize is a very bad idea. Putting politicians in charge of anything is disastrous.
All three are a recipe for a very expensive disaster.

“while struggling on only $71,000+ a year.”

I’d bet it is way over 71K a year. More like 100K.

Probably true. Most educational institutions are “administrator-heavy” and cutting there would save some big bucks. Ever notice how politicians say: “If you don’t let us raise taxes on (plug in whatever income source you want here), we will have to cut police and fire protection.”

Really?

Since Obozo came into office, my SS retirement income has increased 0.2%. On the other hand, welfare and other transfer payments have increased 31%. How ‘bout this instead:

“If you don’t let us raise taxes on (plug in whatever income source you want here), we will have to stop giving free cell phones to deadbeats.”

INNER CITY UNIONIZED SCHOOLS are dead, they just have not had the funeral yet.

Setting aside the Union problem, and whether there should even be a Teachers Union, INNER CITY SCHOOLS are SO BAD that the only force in existence that could sort them all out is about one company of Marines at each school.

First day in the war zone the Marines separate the good kids that want an education and send them to a private school WITH vouchers to pay for it.

The criminal gang banging raping FY brothers are then sent to boot camps run by real soldiers and marines under 1940s wartime rules. There, they will have a chance at a meaningful life other than prison or the morgue, that’s all.

The school districts are all put into federal liquidation type bankruptcy with all property sold off to the highest bidder with all operations of all schools ceasing entirely.

School property taxes are terminated and replaced with a sales tax that can only be raised to track inflation. This way, EVERYBODY pays for the GD schools not just property owners. A bum buys a beer, he supports the schools!

Of course the School Administration never makes cuts amongst their ranks, it’s always the teachers that take the hit.

AND, the gang bangers they 'teach' can't read their diplomas...
