Is there still a draft? I thought we have had an all-volunteer army for many years.

The Left wants to bring back the draft, and wants women included.

They have been beside themselves over the fact that since we went all-volunteer it has been almost impossible to get a really good anti-war movement going.

If everyone’s daughter is subject to being drafted for combat, the protests will be so huge we will never fight a war again. Or so the theory goes.

Selective Service. Congress could re-enact the draft in a major military crisis and the selective service is where they would be drawn from.

The Selective Service System was established by, of all people, President Carter.

In addition to providing the mechanism to draft citizens for military service it also allows for the drafting of medical personnel in the case of a national medical emergency.

I was appointed by George W. Bush to be a member of the Selective Service System and thus far have served 8 years of my 20 year term.
