US General says Carpet Bombing ISIS is Inconsistant with Our Values
NBC ^ | 2/2/16

Posted on 02/04/2016 8:14:42 PM PST by DeathBeforeDishonor1

Speaking by teleconference from Iraq, MacFarland was asked whether the U.S. should use carpet bombing strikes against Islamic State militants, a tactic proposed by Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz. He said that such indiscriminate bombing — which would kill innocent civilians as well as enemy combatants — is “inconsistent with our values” as a nation. The U.S., he said, has a guiding set of principles that govern how American forces conduct themselves on the battlefield.

“Right now we have the moral high ground and that’s where we’re going to stay,” he said, noting reports that Russia has conducted carpet bombing in Syria.

He also was asked about recent airstrikes that targeted Islamic State banks and money caches and may have killed civilians. MacFarland said there may have been three people killed in the bank strikes. But he added that they were Islamic State members and an enemy doesn’t necessarily have to have a loaded gun next to them in order to be an enemy.

He said the bank strikes were also done at times when loss of life would be minimal

I think part of the reason I’m around is because of 52s and many many dumb bombs. Many reasonable people debate whether or not that is a good thing.

Thank you.

My brother in law was a marine medic in vietnam.

He died at 62 of a heart attack and the government sent my sister a letter stating the she was eligible for funds since Agent Orange had been linked to early heart attacks.

I dont know what happened after that.

Two marines draped the flag and one played Taps. It tore your heart out.

You guys deserved better than to have dangerous and silly rules of engagement.

“Values” is how you lose wars and therefore make them more plentiful. Tossing aside your “values” and going in kicking some ass is the ONLY way to discourage people from getting “froggy”. JMO

I’m kind of in shock at the statement, but i dont know why.

It has been seven years and one month of treason and i am SO happy I dont have to use the word Year when referring to his time left.

Just made I had to waste eight of my years with him as president.

It cast a dark cloud on everything.

This wasn’t an issue in Dresden during WWII. It wasn’t an issue when we firebombed Japan back to the stone age. It wasn’t an issue when we vaporized two entire Japanese cities. WTF happened?

Incidentally, the killing of 25,000 to 35,000 people in the Dresden firebombing was encouraged by Josef Stalin, if Diana West is to believed. Unlike the usefulness of the other bombings, it was something of a...moral spot on our WWII campaign since there was very little military value to the Dresden operation.

That general is a crackpot. I would say nuc weapons used in WW2 would qualify as carpet bombing. Very effective in achieving the wars end. Can that pansy as he does not appear to promote a weapons roe to protect American lives.

The life of the enemy is more valuable than American life in this guys runt mind.

“If you rub it in, both at home and abroad, that you are ready for instant war with every unit of your strength in the first line, and intend to be first in, and hit your enemy in the belly, and kick him when he is down, and boil your prisoners in oil (if you take any!), and torture his women and children, then people will keep clear of you.” - Admiral Jackie Fisher, Royal Navy, 1899.

“Right now we have the moral high ground and that’s where we’re going to stay,” he said, noting reports that Russia has conducted carpet bombing... ......................... We were that way in WW II. We struck military targets, we weren’t out to bomb every structure in a town. I guess we got weary of it in Japan, with the carpet fire bombing and 2 nukes to bring it to an end. The Brits believed in total war, burning cities to the ground, flooding them, and what ever it took to destroy the public moral. ISIS doesn’t have industrial cities, just a captured populace that they use as a shield. Carpet bomb them and you take out everyone whether they are ISIS or not. We are more humane for the most part, even though a few would agree to do it the Brit/Russian way.

The fact we’re the only country that dropped nukes kind of makes those words seem silly.

In war, you do what you have to do to win. We tried the “Hearts and Minds” thing in Vietnam, it didn’t work.

There are two purposes for the military:

1. Kill the enemy
2. Break their things

Well, you would have to promote from retired captains and majors to get those kind of Generals these days.

I called this divide in 2000 and my family laughed at me. Elections decided by 5000 votes in one town.. But now that these idiots under 30 became of voting age Obama won by 6%. That killed me. We have to win the election and just as important we have to figure out a way to change these teens and 20 somethings. So ungrateful for this country

Did spanky ever hear of that little fracas we were in called WWII?
