Former Virginia Gov. Jim Gilmore not giving up longshot presidential bid

It doesn’t matter to Jim Gilmore that only 12 Iowans voted for him during Monday night’s caucuses.

“We didn’t expect any vote in Iowa because we didn’t ask for any votes in Iowa,” the former Virginia governor said during a phone interview Thursday. “I’m starting the campaign in New Hampshire where I am right now.”

Gilmore, 66, has received little or no support in recent voter polls nationally or in New Hampshire. He acknowledged that some have made light of his long shot bid for the White House. But he stresses he’s dead serious.

“I am the right candidate. I ought to be the president. So the question now is: ‘Can I make the politics work?’ ”

He hadn’t seen CBS late-night talk show host Stephen Colbert’s send-up Wednesday of Gilmore’s lack of support in Iowa. Colbert mocked his poor showing, telling his audience, “Twelve people … that is less – and we looked it up – than the number of people in Iowa named Jim Gilmore.”

“I don’t know if Colbert’s ridiculing helps or not. But that’s OK,” said Gilmore, who is one of nine GOP contenders still in the race.

With limited dollars, he’s relying more on mailing information to New Hampshire voters and personal appearances than expensive television ads.

He talked about his campaign via cellphone while traveling to a gun club after meeting with senior citizen veterans in Concord. Earlier he shook hands during breakfast at a diner and would end the day at a charity event.

“Look, we’re going to win this thing by succeeding in New Hampshire – beating the expectations and going to a fellow southern state, South Carolina,” he said. “And then I want to perform well in my home state of Virginia. If we do these things, we’ll be in play.”

Because in our “reality show” culture most people prefer phonies, liars, and carnival barkers. Perhaps they see those qualities in themselves.

Jim Gilmore’s spirit is of another age. A much more mature one.

>> Maybe he is hoping for the V.P. slot <<

Attorney General or Homeland Security Secretary or Veterans Affairs Chief would be good spots for him. Seriously.

Or maybe somewhere in the intelligence community, since Gilmore served honorably as an Army intelligence officer.

But I guess he’d be lucky if Trump named him Ambassador to Andorra or San Marino.

Seriously? Jim Gilmore is an establishment hack and a gutless coward. He should just go away.

I agree that Gilmore is better than Rubio, especially on immigration. Gilmore’s website states that, if an illegal alien wants a pathway to citizenship, the illegal should get a pathway back across the border.

Gilmore isn’t an establishment hack. While he was the RNC chairman (2001-’02), his main goal was helping conservative candidates. Bush and Rove wanted to concentrate on helping RINO’s, so Gilmore quit.

This guy's actually a conservative and a vet. He's anti-amnesty. He's pretty good on abortion. The gays gave him an "f" on gay rights, he's pro second amendment, pro states rights...I have to ask, what are we doing supporting these jokers at the top of the field who are afraid to take a stance on the issues that may end America when we seem to have the real deal in Jim Gilmore?

You know that Gilmore is the real deal because of the lack of air time he gets. Everything about his program is reasonably solid. On the BOD of the NRA. Hated by Carl Rove. Wants illegals out. A lot more likable than Cruz and more likely to admit and reverse a mistake. As a former intelligence officer I'd sooner trust his judgment in a war. What's not to like?

He isn't flashy or glib, but comes across as decent and real. I have no idea why he gets no traction at all, but I'd put the media right at the top of a list of causes.

Jim Gilmore Supports Amnesty and Citizenship for Children of Criminal Illegal Aliens (Anchor Babies)

Gilmore is bought and paid for by the COC and Establishment Elites. He's a F&^%ing traitor.

Have you helped Gilmore’s campaign by volunteering and/or donating? I’m running for delegate, for him, in Illinois’ 10th Congressional District.

On Gilmore’s website, www.gilmoreforamerica.com, the immigration page states, “I will insist that the only path to citizenship for illegals currently in our nation is a path back across the border. No one who comes to this country illegally should become a citizen.”
