A clever hiring manager who likes the "black" candidate would be wise to say nothing and just hire him, if qualified.

In big companies the top level bonus is tied to minority hiring which is tied to contractual requirements and thus to award fee. It has to be a very special job with very special skills where the hiring manager makes the decision on his own.

Actually, you claim it was not accidental. You say that you identify yourself as black. Isn't that how it works now?

What if I self-identify as black, even though I was born white? If a man can identify himself as a woman, a white person can identify themselves as black.

Two can play at this game.

Since we can all self identify now, check which ever box gives you the best advantage. If I was still in the workplace, I sure would. Prove I’m not a black Hispanic woman. If enough people did this it would screw up the works.
