The Patriarch of Moscow is not the “counterpart” to the Pope. He is only the head of the Russian Orthodox Church. Russia is the big fish in the Orthodox world as far a membership goes, but it would take, as I understand it, the agreement of all of the Orthodox churches in council to “heal the rift” between East and West. I’m sure the Ecumenical Patriarch might want to have a say in the matter too. :)
The headline is a quite a bit overblown. It’s a significant meeting. It isn’t “that” significant.
Having said that, considering the challenges faced by Christians of various traditions around the world, I think it is a positive thing for major leaders, both East and West, to collaborate when they can.
Jesus prayed for exactly the opposite of what you're selling (John chapter 17).
A common feature of anti-Catholic fundie polemic on FR is that they will slander Catholics and Orthodox to the max while they're alive, but as soon as they're martyred for the faith, the same anti-Catholics practically claim the martyrs as their own.

I wonder if that has anything to do with the fact some on here seem to back the Syrian jihadi Free Syrian Army against Assad that protects Orthodox and Catholics against Islamics. I don't know. I have not been on here long but I thought that anti-Catholic stuff ended a long time ago.
