The Des Moines Register is accusing White House contender Ted Cruz of carrying out a "campaign of deceit," calling his actions troubling for Iowa Republican voters.
The state's paper of record charged the Cruz campaign with peddling "pure, unadulterated fiction" when it sent voting mailers that appeared to be from the government.
The mailers told voters they had received a "voting violation" because of poor caucus participation in the past and for sharing information about other voters. "This was simply a politically motivated attempt to shame certain people into caucusing by assigning them 'grades' and 'scores' that had absolutely no legitimacy," the paper wrote.
"In essence, the mailer was a complete lie, from start to finish."
Cruz won the Monday caucuses by a margin of 3 percent, ahead of Donald Trump and Marco Rubio.

Rubio’s didn’t have neighbor’s names and it looked clownish. Cruz’s looked official and had neighbor’s names. That is why it was noticed. Cruz may have self-inflicted enemies, but that is not why he is getting attention on this. If he would have just relaxed and not want it so much at all cost, he probably would have won the nomination.
Well if you define “principle” as not slandering your opponent as a homicidal psychopath, then Cruz was indeed principled.
But he’s going to build a wall; and the people inside are going to end up being no better than the people outside; so, what for?

I never end being amazed by Cruz supporters. The Des Moine Register was such a wonderful media source when they were all negative on Trump, but now when they report what Cruz did and how he lied it is a horrible paper. Cruz supporters seems to have it whatever way matches the Cruz narrative.
He sure would be an improvement over Priebus, not that it's saying much.

It is completely amazing to me that many here don’t think the Carson campaign bears any responsibility for putting out a poorly worded, misleading press release.
Bret Baier and Brit Hume both said that when they saw the press release they thought the Carson campaign was being suspended as well. For days after the Iowa caucus, Carson has not held a single campaign event. All he has done is whine to the press.
I’m surprised he hasn’t had his empty campaign bus out driving through New Hampshire. That is his standard M.O. Yet he wants to talk about deceit.
